35's can rub upper fender flare

Just an fyi. No rubbing during wheeling. But when jumping and at full compression, the tire must balloon a bit and contact the upper part of flare. Watch the front tire in pic/ video.

The guys over at G.O.A.T Offroad posted a great write up last week regarding lifting/leveling the RR and it touched on this issue. They state that this can be solved by using a strut spacer.

Yeah seen that. I do have a strut spacer as well. Maybe just not quite enough but nothing has been damaged so I'll just leave it alone.

So even with strut spacers for lifts (how many inches are yours?), if you put 35s on stock wheels, they'll still rub at full articulation?
I wish someone would find the right recipe for the best non-portal lift lol.

my spacers are to get a 2 inch lift. I don't have rubbing at full articulation, only when landing. Tires are also at 28psi. I didn't want to mention my wheel spacers from rokblokz but they also factor in. I didn't want to hear about the whole wheel spacer good or bad business. I'm fully aware of the down sides.

Got it. No, selfishly, I'm trying to figure out my plan for possible 35s when my 33s start wearing out someday in the future. I currently have the stock KO3s on the stock beadlock capable wheels with no lift and with the BORA 1.5" spacers (not strut spacers, I mean wheel spacers).

I have only jumped it a couple times pre-spacers and a couple times after and I didn't notice any damage.

Roger that. I'm pretty satisfied with my current setup. No plans to change any time soon. I think id only change if i get different tires in the same size next time that possibly cause rubbing. Currently on goodyeary territory

Its pretty simple. You need a strut spacer thickness that is equal to or greater than the tire radius increase. The other factor to consider is that the wider the offset wheel the more clearance you need. The ideal offset being+35 or +40 to keep the contact patch as far inside as possible.

Thank you. Ok, so I'd need 2" strut spacers for a 35" tire on stock wheels. But then, would my BORA wheel spacers (1.5") actually make things worse not better with that setup given what you said about the contact patch?

Thinking about this, I only installed a spacer to get an inch of lift. I believe i used a spacer from rough country for a bronco because i didn't want to clock the top hat. A 2 inch lift spacer should be enough for 35's then.

All I can advise RE strut spacers is based on the G.O.A.T Offroad ones I design and make, being they are 32mm thick to achieve 2in lift. Theres lots of generic spacers on the market, so I cant comment on their specific thickness.

Yes, your wheel spacers are giving you an effective wheel offset of P17 which is a pretty wide offset and does move your contact patch inline with the flares.

Thanks. Your spacers were definitely the ones I was looking at as well as the very helpful FAQ you had.

Yes, 17 was my math too (55 stock minus 38). I guess then I have to choose between the tire surface being flush with the fenders vs having a lift and larger tires.

Haha flush must have a very different meaning in the US

We have a Ranger Raptor in the workshop on 17x9 +35 with a 315/70r17 and it failed inspection because the side wall is 8mm outside flares, when viewed from above.

BUT, have you read our article about lifting the Raptor? goatoffroad.com.au/rangerraptorlifts ?

Because the issue with spring lifts is they dont factor in clearance for large tires at full compression.
