This past week I had the opportunity to get a buddy on the dyno at Nostrum, in MI. @FlyGuyRR

He had been planning on a big turbo setup, built trans, fuel system, and supporting mods to get it done for over 6 months now!

@DirtDerrick has his spec turbos out now, which is a modified Garrett Powermax turbo set (I can let him tell you more about them). But this is what he decided to do.

The Garrett Powermax turbos are not that much bigger than stock, so they are a mild upgrade, not a HUGE upgrade by any means. He wanted more power, less boost/stress/etc. That's what the modified Garretts offer with a little bit more lag than the standard Garrett turbos.

Mod List

Nostrum Stage 3 Fueling (big bore pump, NOT Goliath, which ended up holding us up a little)
Fabulous Fab Intake (restrictive with cover on, remove cover for more power)
Fenfab SPD Downpipes (True Catted)
Resonator Delete w/tips
PW Piping
intercooler
Suncoast Built trans

Here is where things get interesting! He was able to crank out 556whp 538wtq on 93oct with no additional ethanol! 10% ethanol! These are great numbers!

After finishing 93 we added ethanol and got it up to 65%. We ran out of fueling capacity/time to test other settings. He initially wanted to do the standard Garretts which the stage 3 kit would support, but after going bigger turbos and keeping the Stage 3 fuel system, we found right around here to be the safe limit.

611whp 578wtq was where we left it until he gets more fueling!

All in all, he's making almost 300whp over stock (as you've seen us do before on other trucks).

We'll be back with more fuel, and more power! Until then he has planned Baja trips coming and other cool things, so it's not just a street truck. He'll be in the dirt!

The RPM scale is off a little bit due to gear ration calc on dyno. Redline is 6500. That does NOT affect numbers.

Thanks for reading!

Your Raptor Specialist,

-Winfield

Orange (stock) 332whp 404wtq
Red/Blue (93oct) - 556whp 538wtq
Green (E65) - 611whp 578wtq

Ford Ranger 550+whp on 93, 600+whp Ranger Raptor on E65 - Bigger Turbos! We make +300hp over stock....again?! dyno

Great work as always, love seeing builds come together and the results. While I sit in 2.7 product vacuum jail, I can live vicariously through others.

How much more headroom do you think those modified turbos have with more fuel? Im assuming with the nano architecture of the 3.0 they can handle the power, but ultimately after fueling, power may be limited by the integrated header/head/turbine-inlet design.

This should make 50-75whp more, safely.

I don't push for max effort, so anything you see me do always has some sort of padding built in, unless specifically stated (which will likely be on my own R&D vehicles first)

Wow! So cool.
What do you think about reliability and longevity at those numbers?

Thank you!

I have made more horsepower and torque out of the 3.0 in the past.

I don't see this being an issue, and I will be pushing the limit on my personal truck as well.

I ordered a set of turbos from dirtderrick, but without the core upgrade as i cant get ethanol up here.

Hoping to see similar numbers on a 94 tune.

550 would be awesome on pump gas!

I know they're still in the box, unless you have them out looking at them & lusting for spring time!
Put them back in the box, and send my way.

If you need help with the tuning side we've already done it, so it's not hard to reproduce!

Whats the cost adder on the modified turbo work? I don't see it on the website yet, but I'd love to start budgeting for next year's bonus since this one is already spent on a Disney trip

2.7 modded Garrett PowerMax whenever you're ready! Same turbos.

Look, order some Disney shirts from amazon. Tell the kids, they get to go on the fast pass Raptor Ride, no waiting in line, no sweating, as you jump/launch have them hold their hands up, just pure non stop fun for a fraction of the cost. They'll write an essay on what they did over summer break, everyone will go to the beach or disney or go look in a giant hole...and they ask how long are we supposed to look at this. Your kids say they got to ride a RAPTOR, you can even let them drive. I'll throw in sets of Mickey ears..how many do I send?
