Hey Everyone,

I'm Mike, from Mike's Build Shop.

I have a prototype extended automatic transmission dipstick I am working on, it will be a plug and play unit that will read the fluid level correctly when installed and it will match the factory dipstick markings.

I would like a local vehicle and a owner that is willing to be part of the several steps that are involved with the final prove-out of the fitment, as well as be willing to put miles on it for the shape test and the shrink test.

It looks like it will be a little tricky to install, the body is very close on top of the transmission, so the dipstick housing must make a sharp turn to clear the body, which makes starting the threaded connection difficult.

Initially, I just want to verify adequate clearance from the body and the top of the transmission, as well as assessing how difficult the starting of the threaded connection is.

I would like someone who is game to try the install themselves, because I want it to be real world tested by as many people as I can get, just because I can install it, I can't assume it will be easy enough for everyone.

It still is a ways out from final production, but if I can prove it out without having to make any further changes, I will start ordering the complete parts list to make them in quantity.

I will offer a free dipstick when they go into production, as well as monetary compensation for the owners time.

The test vehicle I have been using up to this point is an hour away and his wife drives it, so it can be an inconvenience for them to let me use it.

After fitment check, if it's good, I would like to leave the housing on the vehicle (no dipstick insert yet) to go through some heat cycles, the PTFE steel braided hose will naturally shrink a small amount, so I need to measure the shrinkage and include it in the final fluid level scale calculations. as well as the more important part of verifying it is holding the designed shape.

I currently make one for the 2019-2023 Ranger, you can view it on my website: https://mikesbuildshop.com/

There will be some differences, the new version will use a cable insert, which will require a different handle, but otherwise, pretty much the same materials and configuration, a bracket mounted to the back of the engine, -10 PTFE steel braided hose (about 1/2" ID) with the same transmission adapter and I also plan on a custom funnel as well.

Okay, that's about it, if you are interested, please let me know, I can come to you, or you are welcome to come to me, I am in Saugus, which is in the SCV.

Thank you very much!

Mike

Dang it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dude i am ssooooooo far away! We need someone on this forum to help out mbs! His product is best of its kind on the market, as i see more people here tow and off road checking transmission fluid is a must! I encourage those who can to help mike if you can.
I had one of his products on my 2022 ranger and it was a quality build and helped so much in maintaining the ranger.
Help him if you can! You will not regret it and we here will have a quality built and tested product by a man who takes pride in his work, and it shows in build and quality!!

The newer 2.3 Ranger is coming up, but this is for the 3.0 in the Raptor, which should fit the 2.7 as well, that will be my next fitment check after the 3.0 is finalized.

Whats crazy, I had similar posts up on the F150 forum, nobody really near me, also had one up on one of the Mustang forums, got a great guy local to me, but... his 900+ HP Mustang was so heavily modified it was not a good example to build a prototype off of.

This only came about as my hose supplier had a new Raptor Ranger available, it's harder than one would think to get access to vehicles for mock up, even tried renting, only Turo let's you pick the make/model, but there was still nothing close to me.

Hopefully someone here will have enough interest to participate!!
Plus, I will make it worth their while, I'm not asking to use someones truck for free.

Hi Ray, I'll send a DM!

It's good to see another familiar name and a previous customer as well!

I can meet you, it should be quick, let it cool for a moment, I'll install the housing, if it fit checks okay, I will have you drive with it on the truck for a week, then meet you again to pull it for inspection.

I am most curious about how well the shape will hold, I form them at high temp with structural adhesive, so after a week in service, I want to put it back in the fixture to check it.

Or depending upon how far south you are from me, I will go to you.

The first pic is the important curve, the rest of the dipstick housing is simple, I only have the 3D printed engine bracket for now, but if this fitment goes well, I will order the aluminum ones.

I'm a 24 STX 2.3 owner, we had talked some time ago about a future option and it's so great you are moving forwards! Was really great to talk with you briefly about the 6G 2.3 possibility and please put me on the list as well. If you need any remote install assistance/feedback please lmk, I'm located in Bay Area. Thanks Mike!
