2026 Ranger RAPTOR
I’ve come back to the Ford fold with my purchase of a 2026 Ranger Raptor in Marsh Grey. After 30 years with Super Duty’s, I no longer needed to tow a trailer or haul dirt bikes to the desert on weekends so I went to a Honda Ridgeline in 2019 (my grown daughter asked what I did to her Dad). Ridgeline was actually a great vehicle, did everything I asked it to do (and did it well I might add), and even fit i my garage … but was just the most vanilla vehicle I think I have ever owned. The call of the Raptor was just finally to loud to ignore. Only a tank of gas through it so far, but I have managed to hit a little off road on a local tight, rutted and fairly steep trail and was all smiles. Very happy with the truck.

Dealer experience was the worst I have had in several decades of buying vehicles (advertised as MSRP “Dealer asking price” but then a $15K markup when I get there), but fortunately that is behind me. Only reason I mention the Dealer is to relay another issue I had and wonder if others have experienced. When about to leave with my purchase, the salesman gave me a walkthrough that basically consisted of having me download the Ford App. I looked for the button to fold the mirrors on the drivers door and I didn’t have one. Instead of two buttons, mine had a single button on top of the panel When I asked about it, the salesman stumbled a bit then said they were manual fold. NOPE .. he them said my truck wasn’t optioned with the button. NOPE .. I suggested we look at the other three Ranger Raptors on the lot and they all had two buttons. I insisted they document it needed to be fixed, and they acted like I was being difficult by not taking their word that Service would adress it later (was near closing time and Service was gone). Took it in for my Service appt 4 days later and they tried the same game. Even told me it wasn’t in the build sheet or on the window sticker. Fortunately I had my window sticker and told him where to look to see ”folding power windows”. Long story short, on the fourth day in the shop, they finally changed it out because I was a dog on a bone about it.

This dealer won’t see me again, but so far I am feeling like the prize of owning this Ranger Raptor was worth the pain.

I like reading about other people's bad dealer experience. Because it gives me an education about
vehicle shopping and buying. Now I know what to look out for. I learn from others. Although I'm sorry you had to go through that.

About 1.5 years ago I almost bought a Maverick Tremor. After spending an hour with the salesman
I was ready to ink the deal. Then he dropped a bomb shell on me. I had to pay an extra $1300 on dealer "add-ons" It was non-negotiable he said. It was stuff I didn't want or need. The finance guy
entered the picture and was firm on the price, and add-ons. Even though he knew I had bought two new vehicles from their dealership in the past. I walked out and thought that they would call me in a day or two to make a deal. But they never did.

I have yet to have a decent dealer experience on the West coast. Very different from the East coast. And that’s why I went to Kansas to buy this truck. No way I was paying $10k over MSRP.

Dealership experiences can vary widely from dealer to dealer; I have great experiences with two dealers in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Which dealer did you goto in Kansas? I was looking at using Quality Motors in Independence, KS to order a 2027, but then got lucky with a local dealer landing what I wanted. The dealer in KS wasn't doing markups and would fill out some paperwork so you could pay the taxes in your home state as long as you got it out of KS within 10 days.

Our local Ford dealer has been great! We've bought new 5 vehicles from them since 2002, and a couple used cars back in the 90s.
Funny story: when my wife decided to buy the Escape, we had dinner plans. At 5pm ish I agreed to the price, down, and Ford financing, no trade in and NO add-ons! I made that clear. They came out with 3 different payments depending on which add-ons I wanted. None of them was zero add-ons ... I told them straight out, quite loudly, I already told you no extras, and I know within pennies what my payment will be. Try that again and I walk out. I have dinner plans - how fast can we get this done?!

No further shenanigans, even the finance guy whizzed thru the paperwork and didn't try to upsell me. That was the worst buying experience I ever had there, and it actually went great. They have to try, I understand that...

Service has been awesome. They did my entry keypad while I waited. I just did the 10k service, cost $115 and they shuttled me home and back. For recalls they picked it up and brought it back to my home. When a recall killed my keypad, the service writer set it up with electronic tech in advance, made sure they had one in stock just in case, told me my 9am appt meant it would go right in at 9. And apologized for the inconvenience at least 10 times. The tech was on it not 5 minutes after I handed over the key, and I drove away in 45 minutes. Oh, and I didn't even buy the RR from them!

Kendall Ford Eugene.
Jesse is my service writer and he's been great.

Glavan Ford of Clay Center. I worked with Tamara and Lance. They were fantastic - I got a new 2025 about 2-1/2 months ago under MSRP. I’d recommend them to anyone.

My Ranger was my first new personal vehicle ever. I wanted to just order what I wanted then come hand them a check and take my truck home, but no, they had to stretch everything out, waste a bunch of my time trying to get me to buy what was in stock even though none of it was what I wanted, then when it was time to pick it up getting out of there was as bad as trying to get out of the hospital. Putting me in offices with different people trying to sell me alarms, tint, extended warranty etc etc.

I know with the internet dealers are trying other ways to make money but just give me what I want and let me go.

Years ago the local Jeep dealer lost my business forever.
1st would have been my first new vehicle. I had done my homework, I knew what I wanted and knew what I should be able to buy it for. They had it in stock (85 cherokee 2 door, high trim level, in my color.) I was 25 years old. I came prepared to put in the time playing their game. They refused to even consider a deal, they tried to show me cheaper trucks, etc. I felt like they had just decided I couldnt afford it and didn't want to waste their time.

I bought a new fully loaded Toyota 4x4 that same day. It had the same sticker price, and I paid a nicely discounted price for it.... Turns out I dodged a bullet, those early Cherokees were garbage.

Then years later I was going to buy a TJ. Around 2003. I kept stopping by but they only ever had manual trans in 4cyl base models, or autos, lots of autos. I asked why no manuals, they said manuals just don't sell. I said they appear to sell immediately leaving you with a dozen autos that don't seem to sell quicky. The guy actually called me an idiot for not wanting an auto. I probably had been 4-wheeling before that asshole was born...

I've never set foot on their lot again.

Shepherd Motors Eugene.

I did buy a TJ, and built it. Lift, ARB air lockers, Warn bumpers and armor, high end Warn winch, real roll cage, top shelf everything. Total love hate relationship. SWB Wranglers are about the dumbest vehicles ever...

Every vehicle has it's purpose, I wouldn't part with my TJ for the world, it's the perfect lightweight toad that can also go offroad and on the beach. It's also great for parking in crowded places like the California coast, or at a street fair. Just the 2 of us so no backseat needed. Manual shift all the way!
