I’ve always found the tailgate pad easiest, it’s the reason I got a Tacoma before getting my RR.

A single road bike will fit in the bed easily.

For my road/gravel bike, I'm looking into doing something like this:

Instead of drilling directly into the bed to mount it, I'm looking into a few options using molle panels, a deck rail at the bed header, or even finding some sort of L-bracket that could utilize these two holes in the bed to mount the fork mount thing.

I saw this idea a while back and seemed like a good solution for me as I wanted a way to carry my mountain bike securely as I tend to have it in my truck often and don’t want it visibly out in the open (I have a full cap over the bed). Built a bracket that attaches to the threaded holes in the bed so I can remove it when I want to use the bed for truck stuff. The Saris rack bolts to the bracket, and I use a Rockymounts fork mount in the Saris rack. Not for everybody, but works for me. Thanks for the idea Komek.

Got some free time and did mine today. Also added rubber bushings. Paint next!
Looks sharp! What is the benefit of putting gap between uni-chan and bed frame? Why not bolt uni directly to bed, wouldn't it be stronger that way, less flex?

thx.

It’s pretty strong and stiff like this and I can pull the whole thing it out quickly if I need to and the bed is the same as new. This just seemed simpler than putting holes through my bed mat and truck bed (and having them line up) and there were structural members under the bed that seemed to be perfectly in the way of trying to install the rack in the right place. I actually started on this route and changed to this bracket method as it seemed simpler.

As someone that has transported bikes more times then I care to think about and finaly getting a hitch mount after almost 30 years of throwing them in the back of the truck, hatchback/trucnk mounts, roof racks and what not I bought a Hitch mount,

I won't disassemble a bike to mount it, I had a wheel stolen at a stop light and early on in my life I had left a wheel behind when I was loading the bike in my car. I have helped guys load bikes on their roof racks because they crashed and bruised or broken ribs,

That sucks, having a wheel stolen or lost. I had one fall out after a bad spot in the road. Luckily i saw it but it was all scratched up.

I like the hitch mount where you set the wheels in the trays amd velcro them down and than have the upright with drop down arms to also keep the bike in place.

My recumbent is heavy since i have lots of junk on it. It definitely gets old trying the lift it amd put the front wheel on when i want to take it out of the truck.
