I would recommend Wool Wax over Fluid Film. They are very similar, but Wool Wax goes on thicker and heavier and will last longer without washing off. Blaster Surface Shield is another good option.

So I know it's counter to what we do the undercarriage films for, but what's the best way to take off fluid film in particular spots? Just car wash soap and a rag/cloth? I don't want to remove it everywhere, just off those beautiful orange shocks. I normally crawl under it after washing, take a look at everything going on and while I'm there I'll wipe them down just because it makes me happy. It's affecting my OCD that they're covered in the fluid film and the dirt that sticks to it right now.

I'd start by just trying to wipe it off with paper towels or rags. If there's anything left after that a mild cleaner should suffice. Be careful with alcohol or solvents on the seals of the shocks, which is why I'd just start with towels and rags.

I have so many questions on this. Have never undercoated a vehicle before; always held them relatively short term until my 2006 Mustang which I still have.

it seems the manufacturers tend to specify Noxudol when they do specify something. It’s a combination chemical anti-rust agent and waxes with a consistency similar to Cosmoline. Have any of you used it before?

also wondering how much should be taken off before application. skid plates yes for sure, but how about the sound deadening fabric material around the trans, or the heat shield material above the catalytic converter? Without taking these off, the material would never come in contact with the metal underneath.

There are several products out there that do a good job, each one is designed for a specific use. I like fluid film and the lanolin products (I think WoolWax is an excellent product) . I drive on the Delaware beaches and get that salty sand everywhere so I chose to go with a combination of NH OIL (for the interior panels and crevices) and IGL Aegis for the frame.
Sounds like you are looking for to protect against the winter salt treatments, which tends to get tossed by the wheels. My recommendation would be the WoolWax for that application.

I went with Ziebart. Went and talked with the manager. He walked me through the process and the yearly upkeep that's included in the price. Took them about 4 hours to do. Did inside doors and tailgate. Very thorough in my opinion. $ 700
