Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance from anyone familiar with Ford warranties or Ranger Raptors specifically.

I have a 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor with about 26,000 miles. The truck has been driven all over the United States and has seen normal off-road driving consistent with how the Ranger Raptor is intended to be used. It has not been abused, modified, or used for anything extreme beyond typical on-road and light/moderate off-road use. No accidents or known impacts.

I recently noticed what looks like rust and possible damage along part of the undercarriage/frame area. I attached a couple photos showing:

  • Surface rust forming along the edge of a crossmember/undercarriage component
  • What looks like exposed metal or coating failure in certain areas

My questions:
  • Would this typically fall under Ford’s corrosion or bumper-to-bumper warranty?
  • Is this considered normal surface rust, or something Ford might classify as environmental or external damage (road salt, climate exposure, off-road conditions, etc.)?
  • Has anyone had success getting similar undercarriage issues covered on a newer Ford (especially Raptors)?

Before I take it to the dealer, I wanted to see what others’ experiences have been so I know what to expect and how to approach the service department.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like mine...probably took a few hits to the underside while he was offroading, and it ended up developing surface rust

Curious what have you done or going to do to fix the issue?

I live in California...don't really need to do anything at all, haha.

If I still lived up north I would sand it off and treat it with an anti-corrosive coating.

Edit: To your point, I doubt Ford would cover it

Try looking into NHOU. It's what I treat my vehicles with. In TX you may not have any local installers for anything like this. Either you can find local shops when you visit road salt heavy areas, or buy and do it yourself.

Seems like Ford warranties for 5 year body panel rust, but I see no mention of frame.

Yeah I have a few spots on hte bottom of my truck that look like that. I'm certain it came from dragging the bottom on a gravel trail a few times or sandblasting the bottom driving offroad at speed. Not something I would expect Ford to cover.

I haven’t really bottomed out the truck except in snow and sand. But on dirt roads I do push highway speeds

If you are worried about the frame rusting, I would plan to have it undercoated once a year. Either Woolwax or Surface Shield. You can do it yourself or pay a shop to do it. I coated ours with Cosmoline when it was brand new and will continue coating with Woolwax going forward. Cosmoline doesn't creep, so I sprayed Woolwas inside the frame, doors, and any cavities I could find.

That is inconsequential compared to what the rust warranty is actually for, which is for perforation of the body panels from inside out. And that is not perforation that you photographed, that is failure of the coating or paint. A perforation is an actual hole through a part.

I would use this rust preventative product called POR-15 I've used it on a very badly rusted 2001 f350 oil pan and it held it together pretty well.
I don't think you're going to be very successful at the dealer for any kind of repair or warranty.
