I've installed a Westin EXP topper on my 2024 Ranger Raptor. All is good, but before I splice into the brake light harness to power the topper light, was wondering if the RR has a dedicated wire run to the back of the bed like I've read about on a bunch of other models. I have not been able to find one. Any help appreciated.

Military splice into the wire that connects to pin 1 or 4 of the trailer connector and run it to to your topper's third brake light. It might also cause it to flash the third brake light when turning, so if you want it to be even (ie left and right turns both flash), splice from both 1 and 4 and add ones way diodes before the junction. Seal everything with heat shrink where possible and slather with layers of liquid electrical tape where not possible.

I power my added reverse lights from the center pin there and they only trigger when reversing without throwing any fault codes and without making it think that I am towing a trailer. I'd assume it's the same case with the brake wires too.

Appreciate all the suggestions, to close the loop here, I ended up installing a no-splice solution I found which is very similar to the Leer packaged solution mentioned above by kvranger, but buying the components individually. Total cost was about half the price of the Leer solution. Link posted below to the solution I installed, everything is working perfectly.

Thanks for the update. I thought about going this route also but wasn’t sure it would work. Glad it did for you.

You have pics of the topper installed? How do you like it? I’m looking at it for my XLT.

I really like it, it is the look I was looking for and was the most reasonably priced one I could find. Was more difficult than I expected to assemble and install, but got it done. Definitely needed 4 people to place it on the bed. Only thing it didn't have that I would have liked is a pass through window since my truck has one in the back (makes that kind of useless now). The other downside is the loss of visibility, but that would be the same with any topper.

@John E Davies What method did you use to wire the stop lamp on the GFC topper on your truck?
My GFC Topper brake light remains dead, I haven’t figured out what method I will use. Maybe an SPV Harness system, they are working on RR versions.

I would think the solution I used, that I posted in reply #7 above should work (at least it did for me). Cost was about $75, and everything works as it should.

I believe that some owners have had issues with the Ford Towing system using this method (teeing into the factory 7 pin circuit), I would much prefer a no cut solution that instead uses the left and right tail light harnesses. There is already one available specifically for RR, they are working on one that will included extra circuits so more lights can be added (using the signals as triggers to control the factory Ford Aux circuits.).

The RR trailer plug wiring is already super vulnerable, does adding the extra connectors there interfere with the spare tire at all?

FYI, I hope you are not also the same guy as on that Coloradofans forum …. I always distrust all wiring advice from somebody who does this (pic taken from that thread):

No, I'm not the guy in that thread, but I do appreciate his post, as it was very detailed (which I needed) and got the job done for me with no issues. Everything working perfectly, no space issues with the spare tire, either, everything fit fine.

Sounds like you have other options in mind, so good luck to you.
