Received my Diode Dynamics Fourth brake/reverse light. Plug and play light system that utilizes the hitch receiver for mounting. Light slips into the receiver and the wiring harness into the 7 prong trailer plug.

Since the RR doesn’t have the room or configuration to add a strip light below the tailgate, this is the next best thing. With the way people drive now-a-days, texting while driving, I thought it a better rear visibility option.

Plan on also utilizing a third brake light flasher as well. I don’t know how it is in your state but where I’m from, drivers habits are really poor.👍🇺🇸

You can option this kit to have the flashing on braking built in pretty sure. Other than it works great had it on my 5G ranger.

I've got one of these on the bench as well. The XLT i have (FX4 with advanced tow) will require me to drill a hole in the hitch to run the wire (the back is welded closed). Its still worth it and i'm considering trying to use the harness as my taps for a camper install

Thank you I didn’t see that option in the pull down menu on the website. 👍🇺🇸

I working on something similar for auxiliary brake lights. I have the flasher and lights I just need to find which wire is the brake light in the housing. Had it off when I put my led turn signal in. All the wires are the same color(white) so I wasn't sure which one was the brake light one.

I agree probably worth it to drill the hole but just to add a different option: i had the dame problem on my 5g xlt (back welded) i found that i could make it work if i depinned the deutsch connector, fed the wired through the hitch pin hole on the side, reattached connector then plugged in the light and inserted it. I may have also drilled a hole through the circular part of the plastic on the light that locks into the hitch pin hole and fed the wires through that too. All very easy but only relevant for those who do not want to drill a hole in the hitch. And yes it makes it harder to take in n out but i dont tow so never had to remove it.

I just hooked mine up. I had to lower the spare a bit to get better access to the hole on the back of the receiver. It is not wide open, but rather a round hole. As luck would have it the hole is ever so slightly too small for the connector. I did not want to drill a larger hole, as the spare would need to come off and I would then need to find the drill, bite etc. there are 2 small plastic “feet” on the connector that goes in the back of the hitch. Trim those down with a utility knife or a side cutter, and yes it will then go in! It does not impact how it connects and seems to work great. I will zip tie it up better tomorrow. The promised 2 minute install…well turned into maybe 20.

Went ahead and installed : easier by far if you remove the external doors from the truck then remove the wiring harness. Unfortunately the C1R (as well as when the braking function is disconnected) triggers the trailer system. Contact DD and they do not have a fix.

FWIW This is a 2.7 XLT with advanced trailing package(which I'm guessing is the issue).

Easy hook up but you need to cut off the two small tabs on the receiver plug with side cutters, to get it thru the hole at the back of the hitch receiver. You also need more than the two small wire ties provided, to properly tie up the wiring harness.

Spare tire must come down to gain access to the rear of the receiver hitch. Doesn’t have to be removed, it just rests on the ground. Good time to check the spare tire pressure as well.

I lifted everything above the OEM plug and secured it to one of the metal tabs where bumper recess, plastic cover attached to. To properly secure the wiring harness it needs 5 medium length wire ties minimum. If it’s not properly secured, it will come in direct contact with the spare.

It’s quite bright and at night lights up the back of the RR. The one I purchased supplies; running, brake, reverse light, functions.

I also opted to cut out the tabs and utilized my lockable receiver pin. This is an install option. Without the lockable receiver pin, anyone can easily remove the light from the receiver hitch and separate it from the wiring harness. I used a Drexel tool with a sanding thimble and a cut off tool. Made a clean job of it. Pin fits nice and snug no rattling or noise.

Does not trigger the trailer function for the RR. With the inline wiring harness, you still retain complete use of the 7 pin plug for trailering, as pictured below. Just remove the light and slide the connector into the receiver hitch. There is a rubber cover for the connector provided. 👍🇺🇸

It will trigger the trailer hook up, and or check the left turn signal, check the right turn signal, etc…etc….then you will disconnect and remove it due to frustration. Good luck.

Really, then how come it hasn’t since it’s been installed? Functions just like it’s suppose to, actually better than expected.

Oh almost forgot, no trailer function either. 👍🇺🇸

R/H. Thanks for your indepth install and function discussion. When I had my 19 ranger, I was planning to use a baja 2 pod system that attached under the bumper using existing holes, and piggy backed into the left tail light wiring. Since baja doesn't have that for the new RR, this is now on my to do list. Thanks again
