DIY Install? - Amp Research PowerStep

Has anyone here installed the Amp PowerSteps yourself? Skill level is rated for the most difficult (4)...it looks tedious, but doable.

I did this on my 2019 Ranger. It did take a lot of time. It just depends on how neat you want things done and how picky you are. It can be done.

I installed them on my 2014 F150 Tremor with the plug and play kit. The install wasn't too bad.
I just looked on the Amp website. It seems all of the kits are plug and play now. When I bought mine plug and play was an option. If you didn't get the plug and play you had to splice wires. I also opted for the pass thru harness that gave you an extra OBD2 port so you could keep your steps plugged in and still plug in a tuner, scan tool, etc..

I installed them myself on my 2012 F150 using the OBDII passthrough to trigger the steps and lights. Took me all day, but they were worth it.
i read the instructions for my 2025 Ranger, I didn’t like the part about having to drill a hole through the floor under the carpet. On my F150 I was able to get the wiring through an existing firewall grommet.

I saw that and same here. Definitely don't like the thought of adding potential for rust.

I looked at it very hard also. Amp are great boards. Make sure you have a set with dual motors. With Colorado snow and the freeze thaw weather, watch out for them freezing up. I’m sure I could install them and I’m also sure it would take me better part of a day. The boards cost $1800 and installation in $225. I’m letting them do it. For me it’s a no brainer. Good luck with whatever you do.

Good point. I'll have to give them a call because the product they show for the RR looks to be a single motor option only.

I’m installing the Westin power running boards Tuesday which have dual motors. Cost is actually $1,723 + install of $225. They are dual motor. I believe the AMP dual motor boards are about the same price. I did just notice the Westin have a $200 rebate for the ones I’m getting installed. Anyway I believe either brand would be a good choice.
There appears to be a decent market for the raptor boards you take off.

i am but its a long way to my house from most people so shipping costs usually make it to expensive. if you are in texas, or very close, i could drive and pick up some weekend when i am off.

if you are north of waco, thats like being in another state so that a long weekend drive . new mexico and louisianna are closer than north texas

Here is the Westin model Boards I’m putting on. They are called the Pro-E. Mars here in Billings, MT is installing them. FYI the $200 rebate ended August 31st.

new orleans is about 8 hours from here. thats not terrible and is just 2 hours farther than driving to dallas
