Someone correct me if I’m wrong, and not that it makes the random shifting ok, but the vehicle won’t shift into rock crawl over 20 mph or something, right?
My understanding is it has to stop and shift to Neutral to go into 4L.

Mine started while I was off-roading in Baja mode. It's drivable but it asks me each time I start it if I want to return to Baja mode. Notice in the image that the suspension and steering options do not appear. It goes in again to the dealer tomorrow.

Ford Ranger Do not buy one Drive Control Fault

I broke the ride height sensor on the rear swing arm a year ago on my first off-road outing. It hasn't been an issue. Forums suggested this is for headlight leveling. I tried to order the replacement part and Ford can't seem to figure out the part number. Now that this problem is occurring, they said they need to fix it first before they continue to diagnose the problem. I get it. But, don't put a cheap plastic sensor, on an off-road truck, in an area where it could potentially break, without proper underbody protection. I have since installed FMI protective plates. The mode selector never switched on my without my interaction.

I have had it shift at 60mph right straight into the modes, literally no warning other than a bunch of stuff flashed through the dash then immediately started shifting. Pulled over right away, definitely not ideal. I'm sure it's a software glitch (I thought maybe humidity related or the keep your hands on the wheel related software). Strange for sure.

Also, the paint peeling on front lower bumper, sad.

I installed the J-brace myself, bought with the Ford points. Definitely not ideal either. Sometimes it's best to wait 2-3 years before buying the new model released. I'm at 16k miles still runs great. Paint is a little weak to rocks.

Other than those issues been pretty good buy and still worth it. Time will tell what else is less than ideal.

I hadn't heard about the drive mode issue and I hope I never experience it. Over 15,000 miles and has not happened so far.

I did have the truck shift modes on me two times in the last 2 months. Once while low speed and once while on the highway.

And here I came to the forum today for a different issue (I can no longer use the "R" button) then found this thread...

Do any of you with drive mode problems have sync auto update enabled?
I have auto updates enabled.

Now that I have everyone’s attention. Mine is in the shop for 2 weeks the dealership has called ford. Ford is aware. I do love this truck. Something is going on here and it might be in the update that we had a few months ago. It is dangerous. If it does happen to you, let ford know. For those who have not experienced it yet BEWARE
