I took a trip from Cleveland, OH down to Casey, IL over the weekend. Total of about 900 miles round trip. I ran the truck in eco mode for almost all of the highway driving, doing 70-75mph, and I have to say I'm impressed. On my way back home I averaged 27.4 mpg (and that's with a few 30 minute stops where we were feeding our baby in the trucks AC while idlimg) and I would've been able to make the whole trip on one tank of gas. I filled up with 380 miles on the trip and the computer estimated I still had 100 miles left. Thoroughly impressed and suprised by this 2.3L

Do I have to turn eco mode on every time I start the truck? Good to hear about the increased mpg. Thanks.

Are you hand calculating it? Best I have gotten hand calculating is 26.5 MPG when the trip computer said I had averaged 27.7 MPG. My trip computer over estimates consistently 0.7-1.2 MPG's.

Back to the original statement, yeah it does exceed EPA estimates for me also.

Mine good too says I should be getting a combined 26mpg according to window sticker but so far hand calculated for the 6 months of ownership has been 28.8mpg.

If it's on when you turn the truck off it'll ask if you want to return to eco mode when you start it up

Nice! I'm driving the 2.7 FX4 and have run a similar 200 mile trip 4 different times. MPG with the tonneau cover closed was 22-23.5 MPH and with the tonneau cover opened was 19.5-21 MPG. All figures are hand calculated and were similar to the onboard calculation (with on exception where the computer showed .9 MPG better than I calculated). I drive at around 80 MPH in "normal" drive mode, so those MPG figures could probably be improved by slowing down a bit and switching into "eco" mode.

Very nice, I had a tonneau installed today, curious how it improves the MPG. Happy with your choice of the 2.7 over the 2.3 so far?

I'm very happy with the engine. It's over-powered for a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, and will spin the rear tires if you punch it from a dead stop. It is crazy fast for a truck, and doesn't even blink under any significant load both in the farm fields or on the highway. My only complaints are with quality defects on the truck itself. I had a power steering failure at 240 miles and it was in the shop for almost 3 weeks waiting for parts. I also have a drooping driver door that my dealer still has to figure out how to fix... Other complaints: noise when turning the steering wheel when very slow or stopped that sounds like an old hydraulic power steering system low on fluid (dealer says it's "normal" even though it is clearly screwed up); holes everywhere in the bed and water sneaking under the plastic rail covers on the bed (I'm fixing this slowly as I find new leak points).
