Ford swingout toolbox - opinions from owners

Deleted member 850

Had one on the Left side of my 2019 Ranger lariat and sold it when i got my Ranger Raptor because I wanted to havr it on the Right side because of the power outlets on the Left. Never had a problem with either one of them and carried my Tow hook, Straps and other recovery gear it them. Worth every penny to me. Agree the Locktite on the 2024 RR tie down bolts made the a bear to remove but with a big enough bar and quality Tox head they came out just fine in the end.

I liked mine, held lots of gear. Even off-roading it seemed stable and didn’t seem to shimmy around much at all. I’ve replaced it with a decked drawer system, but I had no issues with the Ford storage box.

I used my points to get mine. I think it works great, I have about 20 lbs of stuff in mine without any issues. But to be honest, the most off-roading I will be doing is maybe climbing a curb! I had one on my last 150 Raptor and was totally satisfied with that one too. The only issue I see is getting the existing bolts out to mount it. They are in extremely tight and easy to twist off. I did’t have a problem, but I know a lot of members have snapped them off.

Other than installing it myself, this is my experience 100%
I had the same issue with heavy objects in one of mine (hard to unlatch), I did some adjusting and now heavy or not, both open easy.

Yup, 100% agree. My neighbor even came over on the night I put mine in due to the amount of swearing that was coming from my driveway. I ended up using vice grips to get the POS bolts out due to stripping the heads.
I had to carefully use heat from a torch (making sure not to disrupt the spray-in bed liner), on several of the bolts. That red Loctite is just a devil sometimes, especially on non-hardened bolts(i.e. head bolts, manifold bolts, etc.), with high torque strength.

3 questions about these swing-out boxes:

1) Are they easily/quickly removable if you temporarily need the bed space?
2) Does it seem like they'd be pretty theft resistant (both the contents and the cases themselves)?
3) Can you still easily use the tie-down point for ratchet straps in the bed corner where the box is mounted?

Thank you!

In my opinion:
1. Yes.
2. Fairly. The lid has a lock and there is a another lock to secure the box to the bracket. That being said, the locks are cheap and someone who wants to break them will.
3. The corner tie-down point is not easy to get to but you can. I have secured straps to the tie-down bracket a couple times and have not had any issues.

Thank you; that's helpful. One more question. Do these boxes intrude into the bed space more than the wheel wells? For example, if you needed to carry a tall stack of 4x8 sheets and you had a swing box on each side, would you have to remove them? Hard to tell from photos. Thanks again

I think you might want to remove them as they do take up a little space. This shows em pretty good.

Need to remove them to haul items 48" wide. I only have one on the right side and wasn't able to load a 4' wide pallet with it in place. Like others said, they come off pretty easy so can put on top of the cargo or leave at home.

I'll also add the swing box pretty much blocks the rear tie down point. You would have to snake a strap around the box or bracket so it's easier to remove if you need to firmly strap something down with that tie down point.

Still like the box, perfect place to keep a hitch, ratchet straps and tools.

Just a point of interest; I bought mine months apart and labeled the keys with a silver permanent marker. As the marker wore off, I was amazed at my luck at always choosing the correct key when unlocking. Finally checked and found that the keys from one fit the lock on the other. Seems like a pretty insane coincidence. Curious if others found the same.

This could suck... Does the lock seem to be replaceable? I know in cross body tool boxes, you can change a lock with a standard set from Lowe's or wherever. I get that it's plastic and only will keep the honest folk honest.

Thanks.

oh dude, that sucks if they all have the same lock and the manufacturer was just hoping no one would notice or buy two

Seems that it might be as I'm looking at a photo I took previously.
