2024 Ranger XLT FX4
Hi All!
Having owned the US SPEC 6th Gen XLT FX4 for 3 months now, I thought I was qualified to provide some constructive feedback on areas I think the truck could be improved. Feel free to add on

Overall, I am very happy with purchase and 10/10 would buy again.

Areas of improvement:

  1. Driver-side A-pillar grab handle - this is a feature in other markets, but they thrifted it for the US market
  2. Rear cabin ventilation- another feature offered elsewhere but thrifted in the US
  3. Seat belt indication upon start up is an annoying feature which cannot be disabled
  4. The center dashboard speaker cowl (also shows the passenger seat belt indicator) needs more functionality included. Perhaps aux switches or additional gauges/warnings
  5. Base XLT speaker system is rather low quality. Definitely something to upgrade in the future if you don’t have a Lariat or Raptor
  6. Tan headliner- would much prefer the black which comes on the raptor
  7. Lack of Tailgate locking points for keeping the tailgate ā€œhalfā€ opened
  8. The bed cannot support more than 80 lbs of equipment fixed to it without a frame reinforcement (truck caps/canopies or toolboxes)
  9. Rear under seat storage is extremely limited
  10. Rear seat belts ā€˜flutter’ when seats are empty and windows are open
  11. XLT headlights could be brighter at night - they are ā€œgoodā€, not ā€œgreatā€
  12. Rear seats could use fixed grab handles on the B pillars
  13. Rear bench should fold in half 70/30 (at least the bottom cushion)
  14. No clock in gauge cluster (this would be useful because when using CarPlay or the infotainment, the clock jumps around the screen and is very distracting to know where to find the time)
  15. No Locking gas cap/door
  16. Upper portion of the door card (where you rest your arm when the window is open) is cheap plastic and will get scuffed up over time
  17. No ventilated seats
  18. No sunroof option
  19. No optional roof bars like they have in other markets
  20. volume knob should be bigger and more premium. It feels dinky and cheap for something you touch so frequently
Features I miss because I bought an XLT
  1. Premium sound system
  2. Memory seat positions
  3. Aux switches (raptor only)
  4. Black headliner (raptor only)
  5. Projection headlamps
  6. Passenger upper glove compartment

Mirrors are Memorie adjust like the seats.
With two different drivers when the seat changes you have to take the time and readjust the mirrors manually.

First and foremost, please offer more cab/bed configurations! At least offer the same configurations that Toyota offers with the Tacoma (extend cab/6’ bed, crewcab with 5’ and 6’ beds). Ford is loosing market share (including fleet sales) because of only one cab/bed choice. Personally, after 30+ years of driving nothing but Ford trucks, I might be leaving the brand due to no SuperCrew/longbed option.

Bring back the highly popular (and profitable) Tremor package. There is currently a huge gap in the lineup between the FX4 and Ranger Raptor. The Tremor would also compete with directly with the Tacoma TRD Off-road (available in crewcab w/ 5’ and 6’ beds). Ford is leaving easy money on the table every day this package isn’t offered.

Offer an off-road/overland factory built truck (also available in crewcab w/ 5’ and 6’ beds) to compete with the Toyota Trailhunter. Start with the Tremor bits and go from there.

Offer a hybrid engine option to compete with the Toyota I-force max. Using the 2.3l as the mating ICE would be perfect! Keep the 2.3l and 2.7l engine options to provide customers a choice that best meets their needs.

Other items to be offered already mentioned include: Sunroof, grab handles, rear vents, 60/40 split rear seats, better rear under seat storage and ventilated front seats.

The Ranger is the best midsize truck design on the road, it’s the lack of cab/bed configurations and options holding it back from being the segment leader.

Great additions-

I personally think a hybrid powertrain is a bad idea. I specifically did not consider a Tacoma because of it.

I plan to keep the truck for 10+ years and want to avoid those battery/electric issues down the line.

The 2.3 is plenty powerful enough and is likely the most reliable powertrain in the segment right now

Agree with most of what was said by the op. I don’t know what the xlt sounds like but I am underwhelmed by the b&o in the lariat.

I would add that a switch in the bed to turn on the bed lights would be nice. And touch sensitive unlocking of tailgate like the front doors do. And for fx4 package I was shocked at the flimsy half plate covering the tranny underneath. Seems that should have been beefier. Minor things overall. Great truck.

With the tech package you've got cameras everywhere.....

....except the bed. It wouldn't be difficult to add a camera in with the bed light.

Then you could check cargo as you're driving down the road to make sure nothing shifted or flew away.

Also agree with most of the items in OP.

ESPECIALLY 1, 3, 9, 12, 13, 19!!

Push Button Start on the XLT.
But only if there's a way to safely lock your key in the truck, where someone can't walk up and unlock it.

I regularly lock my XLT key in the truck any time I'm going to the beach or boating, and many of those times I also lock my phone in there. Having it on me is only a liability in case of an accident or getting dropped in deep sand. Locking it in the truck and unlocking with the keypad is the ideal arrangement.

This is more of a precautionary worry of mine, but I don’t like the idea that anyone can walk up to my truck and pour something into the tank.
I don’t have any true ā€˜enemies’ to worry about, but you never know what kind of mischief people concoct in their brains.

having a locking gas cap in my last vehicle made me feel more at ease parking outside overnight

Locking gas caps wont stop someone. A flat head screw driver will easily defeat a locking cap in a matter of seconds. Pretty much all tanks have anti-siphon features, and most thieves will just drill your tank now anyway.

There are over 280 Million registered cars in the US. Many without locking gas caps and this is not a problem. I understand the feel good, but yeah.
