Either it feels like I am constantly fighting the steering and I can't relax and just cruise or it always beeps at me to keep my hands on the wheel.

lol I've never had a car with lane keep before, my wife bought a 2023 Acura MDX and the lane keep assist is so batshit insane that this system causes me no issues at all. I've never had it beep at me one time, so it's surprising to hear you say that. What situations is it doing it in?

It is a tad quirky, try putting the steering in sport mode when you are using cruise control with active lane centering. Should increase the sensitivity input on the steering wheel and reduce some of your notifications. When it beeps just give a quick jiggle and it’ll go away for a bit. It seems to be a pretty wide spread complaint across the ranger platform. Unfortunately it won’t be fixed unless ford does an update.

I turned off Lane Centering in cruise control settings on day one for this reason. There was no working with it. It is not only more aggressive in its resistance detection (little movements of steering wheel to make sure you’re holding it) but also more nagging in attention alerts than any car I’ve driven. I’ve had family who’ve been sent into the ditch with Lane Centering in different vehicles on country roads. This one’s a contender for that.

I do leave on Lane Keeping all the time set to moderate however and don’t find it intrusive but have had a couple little fights with it when I’m going through an active road construction zone. It’s useful for me with cruise control too. Just the invisible Lane Keeping bumpers without the Lane Centering struggle session is enough to keep me engaged on longer trips.

They seriously need to do more work dialing Lane Centering in. Compare it to a Japanese car the last five years where Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering make those things practically drive themselves cross country and your worst problem is maybe dozing off. This one feels like you got a crazy girlfriend in the seat next to you.

I turned mine off on the center screen as well, but as soon as I turn the truck back on it's set back to on. I assume yours is permanently turned off by doing this?

i have to turn it off each time i hit cruise control but i hate it also. i don't need to be moving the steering wheel every 30 seconds if i am on a straight road.

Anecdotal, but a buddy of mine said that when he's on a long drive in his wife's VW SUV, if you wedge a half-filled water bottle through one of the steering wheel holes, it jiggles around just enough to fool the "keep your hands on the steering wheel" sensor.

It is not the "Lane Keeping" system that is annoying you; it is the "Lane Centering." They are separate systems. Go into settings in the center screen and turn off Lane Centering.

Well, ok then. I will give that a try.

Vehicle Button > Driver Assistance > Cruise Control > Lane Centering (Toggle Off). Exit and Enjoy. You might actually like Lane Keeping a little more after that.
