I agree, the milage isn't great, but that posting of 16mpg is a bit low. It's rated at 17mpg city & 19mpg highway for the ZR2. 19 & 23mpg for a WT
given the small sample size of only people who post on the forums, this seems like a lot of issues. I couldn't find another one I saw but someone got completely wrong mirrors on their truck, too. many reporting the paint chipping is happening to them and the gaps aren't correct between panels.
Actually, forums will have an extremely lop-sided amount of complaints/issues compared to non-forum people, because people tend to seek out avenues to express their complaints.

To be fair, NONE of the small turbo engines are good for fuel economy. See Ford's multiple EcoBoost lawsuits for evidence.

What do you expect from an engine making over 400 lb/ft of torque? Power requires a lot of air, and a lot of air requires a lot of fuel. Displacement means nothing. It's all about how much power an engine is making.

i would expect that to become true as time goes on, where people get issues and come to the forums looking for a solution/discussion.

however when the accounts claiming these issues were created prior to the truck being shipped or received, it tells me they were already members of a niche community excited for their day 1 order and not so much people seeking the forums to express a complaint after the fact.

old gearhead proverb: there's no replacement for displacement. That Frontier with naturally aspirated V6 making 310hp and getting 18/24/20 mpg looking pretty good right now. Runs on regular 87 octane too. My Maverick turbo is recommended to run 91 for best overall performance.

The Colorado also gained 400lbs over the previous Gen where the Ranger lost weight.

What does the ranger 2.3L get for fuel economy? Can’t imagine it’s much better.
