Is everyone running E load tires?

For those of you that have gone up in tire size, is everyone just resigned to running E’s? I want to go up to a 295/70-17, but everything is an E. Same with 305’s. And most 315’s. I don’t want to run 35’s.

For those on E’s, how much of a ride quality/gas mileage hit did you take?

I had load E 295s on mine early on.
Ride quality seemed fine, little to no change imo.

‘Fuel milage penalty was pretty severe.
16-18 mpg on stock tires went down to 12-14mpg.

I wanted that width and after researching a lot of the actual tire specs .
‘I found the Falken AT4W is offered in a P285/70R17 same as stock size, but actual tread width spec on the p285 Falken was nearly identical in tread width spec to the load range E 295s.

I made the swap over year ago, got the look or stance I was after, got my fuel milage back, and got rid of my minor rub that had with my 295s of my +30 offset Bronco rims.

I’ve got E on some other vehicles. Ride quality and MPG both took a considerable penalty.

I'm happy with my load range D Baja Boss AT. They ride slightly firmer than the stock load range C KO3's but not bad at all. When I was tire shopping I had to eliminate a few of my favorite AT's because they were only available in load range E's, the wider KO3's were load range F. I was surprised the ride was so good. When I put load range D Duratracs on my f150 Raptor the ride was a bit firmer than my current load range D's.

I could tolerate a little added firmness, but definitely would prefer not to take a 3-4 mpg hit.

So why do yall think you lost gpm’s? I looked at the BFG KO3 in the 295 and they only weight in at 61.4lbs….thats only like 4 more pounds than the stock 285’s.

I've got 295/70 Baja Bosses getting installed today. I weighed the tires yesterday and they were 70lbs. The wheel I am putting them on is just under 20lbs but the combo will still be more than stock. I will comment on the ride once installed and driven.

Please do, I’m seriously considering the BFG KO3’s. I have the stock non beadlock wheels and figured that if I run the 295’s at 61-63 pounds I would still be lighter than the stock tires and beadlock wheel combination.

Weight, width, tread design, and diameter, all play a part in rolling resistance and power needed to turn them, which for many years the saying goes an eco-boost motor is either eco or boost, never both, and the more done to them that requires more boost, the worse that fuel mileage factor will be.

35x11.5r17 KO3 load c coming out in a few weeks I believe. Should be light.

What rim are you using that is under 20 pounds?

You can clear a 295 or 34“ tall 11.5: wide tire on a stock +55 offset .
Even the +30 offset Bronco wheels I had my 295/70R17s on cleared everywhere but full steering lock in reverse. Even then it was only a minor rub.

Not quite the case with a 35x12.5 tire. Pretty sure that requires a lift of some kind and a little less positive different offset wheel or spacer.
