I just took my RR into my dealership for some recall work (hood not latching, rear seatback not latching, and the driver's side door arm rest creaking). He indicated the Ford is now installing the Load Box Reinforcement Bracket as a recall item... IF you have a shell or camper installed. They will only do the recall if you have a shell/camper. 🤷‍♂️

I'm not sure if that is the case with everyone else, but that is what they told me and what is on my paperwork.

Just a little FYI.

Is it not if you only do the Ford branded?
That is the way I understand it also. I suspect some may get a freebie from a dealer for non Ford aftermarket toppers.

I believe it is only if you have the official Ford shell too. Complete shite.

What makes it even more confusing is that Ford lists it as a recall notice when you try to schedule an appointment with your dealership online. That is probably why the dealership also thought it was a recall. In actuality it is a Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP 23P22) and has no NHTSA recall associated with it.

I had a chat session with a Ford representative last week where they confirmed it was not a recall but a CSP and only applies if Ford Licensed Accessory Bed Cap is purchased through Ford.

Well, owners should get the reinforcement brackets as part of the recall not only with a topper, but for a tonneau cover with racks, which will definitely result in more than 88 pounds above the bedrails. Will also try asking on their social media site for them to clarify the Ranger recall.
@Ford Motor Company should try to look into this and formally clarify for Ranger owners here.

I have a Ford branded tonneau cover and they didn't feel that was enough to justify the "recall" fix.

Maybe that's why so many may not get a satisfaction survey. Sorry, I had them ready to install before the truck arrived but am still upset that Ford would not just cover the potential structural defect or offer to cover the parts and/or installation (for everyone). They can make up the cost in the next model year.
Still happy I bought my truck, though.

@Ford Motor Company only replies with “nice truck” fluff and won’t touch these more serious issues with a ten foot pole on here (or anywhere else for that matter. Basically they don’t give a F@#k)

I tend to agree, especially when they reply to a new Ranger owner with something like, "Congratulations on your new Maverick. It looks great."
Probably have to submit a weekly report. Ford does want to know what consumers think, which is why they participate and/or monitor forums. They probably are not allowed to respond, because "Ford authority" might pick it up and publish the "issue".

I wanted to give my update on this. I spent all of this morning calling local dealerships, Ford Parts themselves, and no one could give me any updates on where these brackets are or when they will become available.

That being said, one dealership was able to look nationwide who had these in stock and came up with 4 matches. 3 of the 4 did NOT have them in stock or could not locate them. The final dealership located in Georgia had 1 pair and was able to sell them to me using my Ford points.

It's ridiculous how difficult it is to get this part. Of course, once I get it, I'll need to have a Ford dealer install it.

EDIT: Was quoted $225 to install - about 1 hour of labor.

$225 is a great price. I was quoted between $500 - $650 from a number of places. I am deciding to wait and purchase them with installation from the ford site when they come back in stock.
