In April 2024, I walked onto a Ford lot after the clutch just went out on my 20 year old car, and sitting there was this beautiful, black 2024 Lariat FX4. (I was never interested in trucks, the only trucks I thought were cool were the SRT-10 Ram, GMC Typhoon and 04 Ford Lightning) So I asked the dealer about it and he said the customer hadn’t committed to their order. I asked if he had any Raptors and he just laughed. Well, I was in a pickle and needed a vehicle ASAP - but I also didn’t want a truck unless it was a stupid-fast sports truck that made absolutely no sense. Alas, I settled for the Lariat. Now, I say “settled” jokingly, it has been a great truck. The 2.3 eco boost wasn’t the best sounding but the MPG were undeniable. The 4x4 wasn’t all-time, but 4H got me through some harsh winters! It’s such a great truck, in fact, that I actually think I’ll miss it after doing what I did today… Which was finally get that stupid-fast sports truck that made absolutely no sense.

But, lo and behold, about two months ago I found a 2025 Shelter Green RR sitting amongst GMC Canyons and Chevy Colorados, practically begging me to rescue it. I pulled in, just to see what the story was, and it turned out that the first owner didn’t enjoy ridiculous trucks very much (traded it for a Sierra, I believe) Anyway, there I was, sitting in my Ranger Lariat, looking at the Ranger Raptor that made me fall for the the 6Gs in the first place. I was in another pickle.

So, I walk in and the fella tells me that they couldn’t even sell it to me, “too many recalls” he says. I think, “perfect, I can’t leave here with it even if I wanted to!” So, being the idiot I am, I tell him I want to put a deposit on it anyway. “You’re crazy” he responded. “These could be 6 months.” Well, he still took my money. And, after many weeks passed, I was thinking it wasn’t meant to be. “Just be happy with what you have,” I’d groan. But, as usual, I succeeded in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and traded my 24 for the 25. Borrowed the same amount I had remaining on my previous loan at a 3% lower APR, all in all, I’d say the deal went well.

The real question is, did I trade the one you take home to mom for the one night stand that might give you and STD? Let me know how stupid I am in the comments, boys. I’m in a particularly self-flagellating mood and will likely regret having posted this in the morning!

TL:DR I traded my 2024 Lariat for a 2025 Raptor. My girlfriend hates it. What’s wrong with me?

I did a similar thing
Has a 2024 Lariat purchased June of 2024 sold to a friend
Purchased a 2025 Ranger Raptor September of 2025
Never looked back I smile every time I drive it.
And my wife likes it better than the Lariat

What's wrong with you? Maybe you should ask what's wrong with her? You upgraded your truck, maybe it's time to upgrade the GF.

But I kid. That a good looking truck.

Too many recalls? WTF? Was that just a ploy to not sell it?
Yeah, I feel ya. But I believe it was because they were legally prohibited from selling it due to the recalls. And, I guess because it was a GM dealer, they didn’t have a clue on timeline for when fixes would come.

For instance, there’s a Ford Flex on their lot that hasn’t moved in 3 months because of an outstanding rear camera recall. So, I might be giving them the benefit of the doubt, but it made sense to me. (loose seat bolt and A-pillar wiring issue)
