Overhead eye glass compartment

The overhead eye glass holder isn't worth a crap in high heat.
I put my sunglasses in the holder, closed it and went in a store.
Outside temp. was high 90's.
Got back in the truck, went to grab my glasses and holly crap! They were so friggin hot I'm luck they didn't melt.
A bit of insulation in the area would be a plus.
I don't close it anymore when glasses are in it.

Time to sound deaden & heat deflect the roof! Did it myself couple months back. Worth its weight in GOLD! Both for sound (roof is beyond tin can-ish) and heat dissipation. Dropping the headliner isn’t as bad as it’s made out to be if you’re careful & methodical (about an hour each way). One of the best things I’ve done to the interior along with SD’ing the doors as well. Both the doors and the roof have 2 differing layers applied. The 1st being 120mm foil backed mastic then multiple layer hybrid over top. Did it over a couple weekends. Gets you familiar with the interior of these trucks.

I should have been a factory process.
All about cutting cost for profit.

You “might” be able to snake SD’er up behind the storage compartment by dropping the o/h console w/o dropping the headliner.
……maybe…..might be worth a cheap, easy, fast shot. Just spit balling.

I've had overhead glasses holders in many vehicles, since 1998 ish.
I NEVER use them. Ruined some great sunglasses. The heat can deform the frames, but it definitely breaks down the lens coatings and then they blurr your vision.

Lesson learned.
I have used it many times traveling cross country but usually leave it open in case I need to change glasses while driving. Polarized lenses suck when your trying to read a screen while driving.

I found cheap sunglasses usually degrade in a couple months. Good ones take longer but they always end up bad. In the RR I keep them in the upper glove box...

I put in some Siless and I think it still gets too hot - hot enough that my sunglasses hurt when I put them on.

I kind of want to put a 2way radio in that spot but as is, I feel the heat would not be good for it.

I haven't really had that problem.
I just have to make sure I place them correctly.
I no longer close it with glasses in it.

I've had a cheap pair (just in case I forget my main ones) in the eye glass compartment for just over two years. Maybe used them 10 time. Never take them out. I live in the DC area and we get plenty of hot weather and my truck is out side in the sun all the time. My glass are still as good as new and these things cost about $15?

Guess we'll have to put one of those remote thermometer there and see how hot it gets. Cloudy here for the next two days so can't.

I just fill mine with plastic spiders to punish people who like to go poking around in my truck.
