If I update the software as the prompts keep telling me, every time I get in the truck, am I going to lose my Pro Cal tune? Thank you.

Only a PCM update would wipe the tune. However, in the case of a Ford Performance tune, if you get sent an OTA for the powertrain control module, the update will fail by design to prevent the tune from being wiped. What you are supposed to do is wait for Ford Performance to update the tune with the new update. At that point, you update the Pro Cal itself and when you flash the new tune onto your vehicle, it will update the module.

Do not update. I just got off the phone with Ford. I tried to update mine and it screwed the programmer. Lost my stock file and now going through process and hopefully they can get it back. Was told there are never any updates. In fact said once you get program to not even connect to computer again.

Sorry to hear about the issue, but I am not sure why they would say that to you. There is a thread on this forum where several Ranger owners updated their Procal to obtain a newer tune and successfully flashed it on their trucks.

again
"never connect to a computer again'??? LOL

Unless the dealer or shop is just fixing a flat tire, everything they do starts with hooking up and reading diagnostics codes via a computer. Not sure how life would be possible without ever hooking the truck up to a computer again......

No not don’t hook your truck to a computer don’t connect the tuner again. It can lead to problems.

I just went through this and it took about 3 weeks to get straightened out.

I wanted to flash the truck to Stock so I could get the truck in for recalls and PCM update. I wanted to make sure the ProCal software had my stock and tune file in it so I connected it to my PC. I specifically told it I did not want to do any updates but it somehow did send some and it flashed the tuner. After that the ProCal showed no files at all in the tuner. I connected it to the truck and it acted like it didn't have any files on it.

I'm not sure if the FP Engineering team had to do something on their end, but what finally fixed it was this:
  • Start ProCal software with tuner disconnected
  • Plug in tuner (ProCal still said it was Not Connected and no vehicle files showed up)
  • Disconnect tuner with ProCal still open (still shows Not Connected)
  • Reconnect tuner
After the last step ProCal showed my Stock and FP-JF tune file. I was able to take the tuner out to the truck and restore it to Stock.
