Installed a TurboSmart Blow off valve. Until I can get it turnt up, at least it will sound faster.

Very easy install, you'll need an inverted torx size E6 to remove factory, and to install new one. The TurboSmart does come with a couple other screw options.

Any reason why you went with the dual port model vs the recirculating model?

I tried both on my Focus RS and noticed quite a big increase in turbo lag when shifting with the vent to atmosphere model. I’d think having paddle shift would make that turbo lag even more noticeable.

It adds a louder "whoosh"-ing sound to the turbocharger spinning up. No performance gains

Aren't there also BOV's designed to use recirculation venting at lower boost pressures and vent to atmosphere Pssshhhh for high boost?
Would be interesting to see if it is affected by the baja drive mode that keeps the turbo spooled-up (anti-lag) after letting off the throttle.

I wouldnt think it would be affected at all by baja mode. The BOV does its job when the turbos stop spooling and release the back pressure. If the turbos keep spooling in baja mode, theres no back pressure when you let off the gas.

I've been reading about this a lot, sure tempted. My only hesitation came after watching a video where the guy mentioned they won't put an atmospheric BDV on a unit with a mass air flow sensor. His reasoning was that the ECM is tracking air in the system and adjusting fuel accordingly. If you don't recirc that air, the math is off and you will run rich here and there. Can't find anything stating issues over the life of the engine though.

Edit: are these trucks running an MAF or an MAP? An MAP would make more sense and I probably wouldn't worry..

dump valves - BOV valves - yes they do get rid of the pressure created by the turbos in the intake system when you take your foot of the gas but … they also maintain the pressure when on the gas .
IE - when you start upping your boost you need a stronger spring or coil in your dump valve once past a certain point.
Can they add bhp - yes if controlled outside the stock ecu parameters they can increase boost pressure by not discharging at lower Psi.
Will adding this BOV add bhp - no as it’s controlled by the ECU so it’s a like for like change just sounds better.
recirc vs vent to atmos . The volume of air - time it is vented will make no difference to anything if the small amount of air does not make it into the intake.
Can a dump valve increase lag - only if it’s faulty and leaking air pressure. .
lag is caused when the turbo size has not been matched to the engine cc and the lack of exhaust gas causes a delay in the turbo spooling.

Sir you look like you know your stuff. So if I were to replace the Bov to this turbo smart billet aluminium one which of the two versions they offer would you suggest , the plumb back or vent to air version?

Makes no difference to the performance or running of the motor.
it’s a personal choice .
the plumbed in choice makes little to no sound on discharge.
The vented unit makes a whooshing sound as it lets the pressure out.
just bear in mind the whoosh sound can be quite loud and heard by people on the street as you drive past especially if your pushing the motor but let’s put it this way , I prefer vent to atmosphere but my wife hates it ….. go figure.

Moral of the store, unless you’re changing the way the ECM is controlling things ie. a performance tune, bolting this part on will do nothing for you except make cool noises!
