S&B CAI Installed... BOV Noises?

Hello all, I just finished installing the aforementioned cai and left the side cover off temporarily so that I could hear it breathing a bit more. While I noticed the moderate increase in induction noises, the surprising thing was I hear the typical bov psshhh to a lesser extent than actually having a bov installed...

Is this typical? Thank you.

Do you have a venting BOV installed too? BOV release venting sound is different than intake sound. If you have a stock recirculating BOV, an intake isn't going to make it vent.

I do not have a bov installed. There is nothing venting to atmosphere, just the stock blow off hose.

BOV noises are from the vent releasing unused boost pressure into the atmosphere. The stock valve recirculates the air, so theres nothing to really hear. Aftermarket BOV (Turbosmart) will make noises with or without your aftermarket CAI (maybe more noise with the aftermarket CAI, I duuno). Intake noise and BOV noises are related (both air) but two different noisemakers.

The way it is set up from factory, any excess boost is returned to the intake inlet tube. It is possible that with the aftermarket CAI, you can hear it since you left the cover off.

If you want BOV nosies on the cheap, just order the Amazon DV spacer for the eco boosts. I’ve got one and it works well, no loss of performance that I can tell
