I’ve owned a lot of Ford vehicles and have little faith in their ability to make a decent transmission - I’ve gone through three.
I’m hoping to make this Ranger last at least a decade and am most concerned with not stressing the transmission.
I’ve read elsewhere on this form that when you put the vehicle into park, the parking brake doesn’t necessarily engage, and that the vehicle comes to rest on the transmission - potentially leading to a component failure over time.
my father is adamant that the best way to mitigate this is
Brake pedal > neutral > engage parking brake > release brake pedal > shift to park
Some people on this form have an accessory that engages the parking brake automatically when the is put vehicle into park.
My wife will not use the above procedure when she drives the vehicle, so automatically engaging the parking brake when she parks the vehicle is appealing.
This is my first truck and first BOF vehicle - not sure if it’s a valid concern. Would really appreciate your insight!
