Was just New Mexico welcoming youWe loved the bat flight and touring the cave when we visited. We also got treated to a haboob (massive dust storm) while visiting. I think I'm still getting dust out of the Focus from that thing.
Did you drive hwy 120 from Benton to Lee Vining? Curvy twisty road with the whoop de doos "dips". Most fun I've had in years! Sport mode and ignore the wife ...That's actually pretty good. Have you broken $100 for a fill up, yet? I hit $108 for 17 gallons in CA, but topped off the tank in Lee Vining for over $7/gallon. CA is insane.
We got stuck in a sand storm at Hanksville UT. Was mostly over by the time I took the picture..We loved the bat flight and touring the cave when we visited. We also got treated to a haboob (massive dust storm) while visiting. I think I'm still getting dust out of the Focus from that thing.
Regular was $7.10 in Lee Vining today. Seriously?! Luckily I topped up in Tonopah....That's actually pretty good. Have you broken $100 for a fill up, yet? I hit $108 for 17 gallons in CA, but topped off the tank in Lee Vining for over $7/gallon. CA is insane.
I used to toss sweatshirts or whatever on the dash when I those conditions where the dash was reflecting badly on the windshield. Finally bought a real dashmat. I don't give a bubblegum if that makes me look like an old fart - it works! Have had them in every vehicle since. The cheap polyester carpet type aren't great, they can still be too shiny. The better ones look like suede or cloth. This one was cheap, and I got lucky. The material looks and feels like suede leather, no reflection at all, the embroidery is very nice. There are various models so choose what you like. I chose black edging and red logo. It's not tailored, it's just flat but it still looks and works great.Still working my way through this thread. Lots of good stuff!
Gotta ask, where did you get the dash mat? I remember those being all the rage back in the 80's and 90's, yet I never had one.![]()
Too cool!I live about 15 to 20 miles from the old whiting brothers gas station in your pictures of NM. I remember when that station was open. That was before I-40 was built and had to take hwy 66. Great pictures. What an awesome adventure.
I think so? I'm really bad with names, but great with landmarks. Was it in s valley, and it was a roller coaster of stomach drops for like 2 miles? Then a nice drive through Inyo before passing Mono Lake? If that's it, then oh yeah. I was tempted to turn around and do it again.Did you drive hwy 120 from Benton to Lee Vining? But Mono Lake and the tufas are worth the price of admission! Did you go up to Tioga Pass?Regular was $7.10 in Lee Vining today. Seriously?! Luckily I topped up in Tonopah....
I've been on I-40 several times and it's a very convenient highway, but I always feel a bit melancholy for the businesses on Rte 66 that suffered when I-40 opened.I live about 15 to 20 miles from the old whiting brothers gas station in your pictures of NM.
