Most epic days drive I've ever had!
Heading east out of Yellowstone Park was the toughest road I've ever driven! Switchbacks up cliffs over a pass then even worse down the other side. I'm afraid of heights!! Then again out of Cody toward Buffalo was almost as bad! Highest point on our drive today was 9498 ft! The scenery is beyond description.
Most epic day of driving in my life. And the scariest...

Tonight we're in Buffalo WY at the Occidental Hotel.

I know that feeling. I’m flat lander and there were many places out west that made my butt pucker and draw up the seat cover!

Did you stop at the museum while you were at Cody? If you are into firearms or plains indian history, its an amazing museum.

No, we only stopped for lunch.
We had huge storms north and south of us and wanted to get over the pass. Got a few sprinkles and a few snowflakes but drove 90% in sunshine.

Wow! Nice! I've sailed around it a few times (Astoria to Victoria, and back) but visited there only once. We want to go back and stay in the Lake Quinault lodge.

Today we passed a red F150 Raptor towing a travel trailer, we honked at each other.
A while later stopped for gas at Moorcroft WY($4.19 gallon, cheapest yet!) and they pulled in beside us -- and another red F150 Raptor pulled in beside him, towing a side by side! We chatted a while, retired couple, the one the wife was driving had 240k miles on it (6.2l,) the husbands was newer with the 3.5. Nice people.

That sounds super fun Mt Rushmore and the black hills are very nice. Since you are headed to Nebraska,Kansas and Missouri you should make a stop in Sioux Falls and check out falls park. It is about a 5 hour drive east on 90 then after you can take I29 south and that takes you to Nebraska,Kansas,Missouri. While you are in Sioux Falls you are also about 15 mins from Minnesota and Iowa so add those on the list as states you touched by lol. I was born and raised in California and moved to Sioux Falls about 10 years ago it is def nice place to stop and check out. I also lived in Kansas & Missouri make sure to stop at Joes or Jack stack bar b q if you can you will not be disappointed. Happy trails and keep those pictures coming

Tomorrow. Going to ride the 1880 train in the morning, drive the Custer State park wildlife loop, drive the Iron Mountain Road to Mt Rushmore, attend the first Mt Rushmore lighting ceremony of the season. My wife is a veteran, she doesn't know about the lighting ceremony, will be awesome!
