Should we just get a Tacoma?

Anyone thinking about pivoting? I would be lying if I said I wasn't. It's certainly not a Raptor, but with the savings you get, you can truly make it your own. I think with the uncertainty of the strike is really compounding to my decision. First of all, I don't think UAW is actually bargaining in good faith, and I don't think the OEMs actually are in much of a hurry to settle. They all just secured financing, and they have inventory on dealer lots that are just sitting. I think a strike in production is exactly what they wanted without signaling to the shareholders that they need to stop production because of unsellable inventory.

Secondly, I am kind of hesitant about buying a Ford product, knowing that there will probably be another strike in 4 years. Right when my Raptor will need parts for warranty work, etc. What do you guys think?

I mean considering Tacoma's are actually going into production and the MAP plant is currently shutdown, I would argue that they will be easier to get.

Odds are the UAW strike will be over well before consumers are getting Tacomas in their hands at any major level.

Not to mention tacoma fanboys will be lining up so you'll be dealing with waitlists and not being able to spec out a truck how you want. I'll pass on the taco.

I was 100% convinced I wanted a Tacoma until I actually looked at them. They have a reputation for reliability that American trucks just don't.

My own personal reasons I passed:
Toyota sells them like hotcakes anyway, so they don't bother with ordering for you. They'll "call you when something comes in similar to what you want"

For the price of a typical TRD-Offroad with some options on a dealer lot, I felt like I wasn't getting enough.

It felt like a full size truck compared to the 23 ranger I drove or my dad's old Dakota.

I couldn't get comfortable in the seat.

Something about it was just boring to me. Nothing excited me in the least to want to own the vehicle I was driving.

I’m considering the Tacoma for a bunch of reasons and I’ve driven nothing but Ford trucks the last 30 years (‘94 Ranger SuperCab from Nov. ‘93 - Jan. ‘02 and F-150 SuperCrew Jan. ‘02 to present).

First and foremost is a lack of a SuperCrew/longbed. Second, no Tremor option and a big gap in off-road goods between the FX4 and Raptor. Third, no hybrid option.

With the Tacoma offering 7 trims, 3 cab/bed configurations, 3 engine options (one a hybrid) and auto and manual trans…. Toyota is clearly looking to dominate market share with so much variety. Still scratching my head how they have dominated the market with the outgoing model???…. Not even close to being the best midsize for many reasons.

My only pause at this point in buying a ‘24 Tacoma is what is currently unknown… cost, fuel efficiency and rear seat legroom??? As it stands right now, I’m lean towards the Tacoma. (Looks weird seeing my own writing) ?

Nope. The seating position in the Tacoma and Forerunner's for me is a permanent deal breaker. I love the two vehicles (from the outside).

If it means anything I had a 12 Raptor with under 30k miles that I traded straight up in 21 for a 21 Tacoma. Needless to say I’m coming back to Ford with a RR order.

What initially sold me was the reliability reputation of the Tacoma that’s echoed by their fans. Prior to the first oil change the truck needed it’s engine pulled to fix oil leaks. Not impressed…..and it just felt blahh on top of it.

Yeah don't get me wrong. I much prefer the Ranger Raptor over the Tacoma any day of the week. I just can't believe how terrible the timing has been for everything related to it though.

I still intend on waiting for the Raptor. But if Tacoma's are on the lot and my Raptor isn't even scheduled yet, I am not sure I can or am willing to hold out much longer.

I know when I was looking at trucks a new Tacoma was 10-15k more than anything else I was looking at at the time

I was just at the Toyota dealership the other day. They said they are going to be very hard to get at first, kinda like the Tundra. My dealership didn't have any allocations yet for the taco. Also, the higher end trims won't be made till April.
