It’s the spare wheel mounting plate carrier (BK21-1402-AA).

I can’t believe it’s in this bad of shape, I’ve only got 8k miles on the vehicle.

Is this something I should bother replacing? The spare sure doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere.

Searching that part number all I can find is that it’s for a 2014+ ford transit. I don’t think it’s actually from a Ranger, and more importantly I don’t think it’s from your Ranger?

Not sure how it got in your Ranger, but given the state it is in, and given your spare is secured fine (where would this part even go on a Ranger?) I would be comfortable saying it’s not from your Ranger

Good catch! You just saved me a trip to the chiropractor

there was a spot where it looked like it might fit if it had the rest of the assembly, but there was no obvious need for it.

When I googled the part the majority of the listings were in USD. I’m in the UK with a Yankee truck, so i jumped the gun on this one.

Someone must have tossed it into my driveway

I think that solves it! As I know Ford Transits are very common in the UK? So yeah must be just some random luck that the rusty old piece landed in your driveway. Maybe just give your Ranger a little tickle under its side mirror as a way of an apology for ever doubting the girl

If that peice fell of your truck, your spare wheel would be dragging on the ground!

FWIW, I just took my snow tires off and did a 5-tire rotation. When I bought my truck new I sprayed lanolin undercoating (I chose surface shield, but fluid film, wool wax, etc are all great) and a year later everything looks brand new underneath after a long, salty winter. Cheap an easy to apply, but most importantly, it’s rather effective.
