Wondering if anyone has come up with some way to utilize the hollow space in the tailgate. My friend's Colorado has a nice compartment to put some things in, and I'd love to have something similar in the Ranger. A place to put jumper cables, tire repair kit, etc would be really nice to have inside the tailgate.

No I'll have to see if I can get a picture of it. It's actually part of/IN the tailgate itself. so you flip the tailgate down, and where we have a measurement and cup holders, the Colorado has a panel that can open up and store a few items in it.

I saw one on an Aus youtuber's channel. Looks like a total PITA to install (had to cut some sheet metal in the tailgate) for not much added storage, and it cost quite a bit IIRC.

Nop one is getting it. He's saying remove the ~6" panel and replace it with a compartment. I agree, Has the OP taken out the screws and seen if that space is clear?

I didn't watch the video at first because the outside light was in front of the camera and everything was really dark. He should have turned the truck around.

That's a lot of work for what you end up getting. If I wanted easy access to additional storage space in the bed I would get the swing case that I posted above. I hope his tailgate doesn't warp from the support he took out.

Yeah, doesn't look like something I'll be doing.... Will find some alternate solution. I don't really like the swing out ones, so will probably just drop a toolbox in the bed. Was an interesting thought though :)

May not be ideal but I just used a tote for all my stuff

The tailgate idea is good but in a reinforced tailgate. I went with two swing cases from Ford. They hold all my stuff with room for more. Tuck in very nice and if you need the space for something they just lift out.
