Taillight removal tips?

Has anyone removed their tail lights on their 24 Ranger? Specifically I have a ranger raptor but I don't think the tail lights are different on those. Any pointers or resources on that?


Second, how do you tap into the reverse lights to trigger something like a baja design reverse kit (assume a reverse harness is available from an F150 for example but I don't know which wire to tap)?

Take the 2 torx bolts out and then pull straight back to release the clips. The reverse light should be a single wire if it's halogen like my Lariat, if it's LED than I am not positive and the LED wires are all the same color.

Thanks, is hand pulling it enough or should I be looking to use a trim tool? Maybe my mistake was trying to pull outward instead of backward.

Hand pulling is enough, it’s pretty tight but just make sure you’re pulling straight back, this video shows how to do it.

Unplug the connector and u can use a multimeter to find ground and power. Can have someone do reverse for u so u can see which port gets powered only when reverse is engaged. And can find ground once u find a positive (ground on a bolt or bare metal nearby for finding positive then hold the positive and search for a ground pin in the plug). I did it for my third break light on my camper but i dont have any pictures for which ones i tapped sorry.

I was trying to do it without unplugging it. But I'll leave it for another day once I buy a reverse light harness and lights themselves. I was hoping someone else had already tried this on a ranger ?

I tapped mine to install a Morimoto light bar. The backup light (halogen) is separate from the other light functions and has it's own plug. I used a simple light probe to find the correct wire. I just unplugged the bulb and tested each contact. While I had it out I replaced the bulb with an LED bulb and it made a huge difference. You can also use zone lighting to test the plug.

Oh, I only saw that one connector on the taillight though! Was this on a ranger raptor or different trim?

Does zone lighting allow triggering just the reverse lights?

i have a 2025 raptor ranger and trying to figure out how to unplug the harness tried pushing in and pulling out still no luck .. any ideas pics videos thanks

Im running this harness. Plugs right in behind the 7 pole connector and no tapping of taillights which i think is a huge plus. Check it out not directly related to this thread but if it can help you not cut harness its a plus.
