Trade in and upgrade

I am negotiating a trade and upgrade of my 24 Lariat for a 26 Lariat in black with black package. The truck looks pretty slick in that combination.

I am trying to review all the deletes from Ford between the two model years to make sure I am not missing anything major. Biggest one for me is the loss of the projector headlights, I took the 26 for a drive at night and the reflectors don't seem terrible, definitely a different light pattern but still plenty bright. Does anyone else have any feedback on the two model years and if there are any other major differences or dealbreakers? This is what I found so far:

Projector Headlamps -- Delete in 26, reflector
LED front turn signals delete in 26, standard bulb (These don't seem nearly as bright as the old LEDs)
Front camera washer nozzle -- Delete in 26
Side Mirror Turn signals -- Delete in 26
Side shooting zone lighting -- Delete in 26
Led third brake light -- Delete in 26, standard bulb
Seats -- Activex in 26 vs leather in 24


I am gaining the advanced tow package, so backup assist and the additional rear lighting.

Most of these are annoyances vs dealbreakers for me, the standard bulbs could be replaced with LED.

Again, any thoughts from others?

Off hand the 2 that come to mind are 24 to 25 they nixed the 12v outlet in the bed, and nixed the entire parking assist subsystem. Neither came back in 26 that I know of. The 12v can be fixed by installing the '24 part though.

Also the bed rails are different, so a '24 tonneau won't fit a 26. Unsure if you had one you planned to move over.

26 they also added the option for a sunroof.

25 and 26 have better brakes, and a better 2.3L if that's the engine you're getting.

Sure there's a few more, but I'll follow up as I remember.

my son told me something else he noticed different when he got his 26 lariat a month or two ago and now i cannot remember. dang it. i will remember later and hopefully think to put it on here

Headlamps are still LED (reflector), just not projector LED.

If you had one of the weird stubby e-shifters on the 24 you will go back to conventional. Securicode keyless went dealer add on?

Possibly no side steps if that matters to you. If you were J1 2024 with the J-braces it was all resolved. If either old/new have the bumper/bed step its an expensive add-on vs factory install.. I think the tailgate torsion bar came out so possibly a slightly heavier feel there.

25+ can be flat towed.

A few changes were trim specific.. I think rear window/power slide changed (300/301 maybe), the "convenience" package - not sure if that's still an add-on at Lariat trim

Yes my existing one has the e-shifter and the self parking. I have never once used it. I did notice the shifter was back to the style that my 21 had. Not a big deal, now I can rest my wrist on it.

I am disappointed about the tonneau, I was going to take mine off the 24 and install it on the 26. The rails looked the same, but I guess that is deceiving. I saw some aftermarket sites show the same part for 20 - 26 so I just assumed it would fit.

I never had the bed step, and this one doesn't either. I think other than the sunroof that is the only missing option.

I am getting the 2.3, its always been enough power for me. So the engine improvements are a good thing.

I am glad to hear the J brace issue is resolved, if I have to get a new tonneau I would probably go with a hard one vs the soft fold I have now, snow weight in the winter would have been a worry without those braces.

The bed rails on the 26 are thinner than the 24-25, giving it a shorter Z-height. If you have a clip-on tonneau you probably won't have an issue. If you have a slider or anything that has brackets that bolt into the bed you should check with the manufacturer to see if they have updated brackets they can send you (free or purchase).

it was the shifter. my son thought it should have had the smaller shifter but it had the same as his old one. someone already covered it here though.

I have a Truxedo Truxport now, it clamps under the rails, I think it will be ok because of the adjustment in the existing clamps. I just have to figure out how to remove the foam parts without destroying them.
