Why buy local?
Raptors have very few options . Almost everything is standard.
‘pic a color or two that you like , do a 500 mile search radius of your zip code and if that doesn’t get you a good deal go out nation wide with the search.

What colors do you like?

You gotta pay to play. And California is double extra shitty because they don't deduct your trade from your taxes -- unlike literally every other state I'm aware of.

After all the mark up + tax title +license and finance, it's going to cost me over $70k. Should I even bother?
Why not an XLT or Lariat FX4? You can get good discounts on those trims!

If you want a Raptor, another trim just won't do.
Not sure if you read, but OP was cross-shopping with a Maverick Tremor, so I'm not sure that assumption holds. Anyway, if he doesn't find a Raptor a compelling value $60-70k then naturally one must consider other options or abandon the search.

In my opinion, i think paying 60 to 70k for a RR is much better option then paying $50k for Maverick Tremor. This is my main arguement. But it still bugs me that I have to overpay for a RR.

Regardless of what truck I end up with. I am not being offered any real discount or .......

I bought my 25' Lariat FX4 for 44K, it stickered for 52K.

Just consider that, you could drive a much more capable truck than the Maverick for less money. Kendall Ford near Boise, ID.

There are lots of Ranger Raptors at or even slightly under MSRP. You can find them with a little judicious searching. Heck, I have a Marsh Gray at MSRP right here, if you want to drive it home from Oklahoma it's yours. The fact you live in California and have to deal with astounding sales taxes and registration charges is something you will have to come to terms with. Or move somewhere else. But if you want to live in CA, you have to pay to play. That's not on the dealer you're buying from.

Are you counting the interest you will be paying over the term of the loan? The dealer only gets a tiny piece of that upfront. The interest can always be negotiated for a couple of points as well but it will not make a material difference. Search the country and have it shipped.

Just do it man. YOLO. I’m at 13k miles on my 2024. Mine was 58k 10/2024, mark up 2k, OTD at around 68. Taxes were at least $4k in FL from what I can recall. So you’re debating a difference of a grand in Cali.

I had never bought over the phone but did this time, from South Dakota. Got the right price and with the rebate savings, had it shipped to my door and trade in F150 shipped back for $1600. Kansas sales tax is on the actual out the door price paid, not MSRP. Long McArthur Ford in Salina, KS has a White one at $1500 under MSRP. It has been there a while so maybe you can negotiate. And a Black one that is their custom Alpha 500 package at $74,900, $2k off MSRP. Rusty Eck Ford in Wichita has a White one at MSRP.
