That’s a fair point about corrosion. But they can get hit when not rock crawling. I think the S&B guards are a good choice especially considering the price.
2 bolts and you can pop them off to paint or have powder coated every few years.

Are these needed just for Raptors and why are they needed?
Not required. A few people have had the sensor become damaged or unplug while off-road. Probably isn't an issue for 95% of people, but everyone wants to bolt something on the truck so these are a cheap way to do that.

My start stop doesn't work 3/4 of the time
Do or did they require it automatically turn back on in Canada?
Could also be that it is too cold up there, if the climate control is requiring the engine to be running to achieve the desired interior temp, then it will not or is not supposed to turn off the engine.

I think that is a US MFG regulation or it was one, that stated in order to claim the mileage gain it had to automatically turn back on every cycle of the ignition.

That is why when it leaves the factory here in the US it does not allow you to simply turn it off and it stay off.

Tight part removal/installation during hand and arm contortions while avoiding sharp metal edges are limited to five colorful words per hour, by warranty 😆. I'm waiting until warmer weather on Wednesday.
