I am thinking about selling my ‘18 Toyota Tacoma and getting a Ranger Raptor. In regard to the reliability and engine… would you do it again? Do you regret it?

I have never had a Ford so it’s new territory for me.

Thanks.

Tacomas are not the standard all trucks are held to anymore, coolant pipe leak on 3G, transmission issues on 3G. I think you’ll be fine.
AGREED. My 21 Taco leaked oil at 2000 miles before it’s first oil change. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Never again. My switch from the Taco to Ranger Raptor was 1000% worth it.

The new Taco is breaking axles and having transmission problems. They aren’t bullet proof anymore. Look at Toyotas new gen vehicles. Tundra engines getting replaced with less than 10K miles. All manufacturers have their faults now.

It's only been 2 months of ownership of my Ranger Raptor.

Likes: I love the engine/power, trans, t-case low range, comfort in the cab, functions/tech inside.

Dislikes: Too much plastic in the engine bay and underneath, no vented seats, steering wheel too small for my liking, trans get hot quick in extreme heat in 4 low crawling

Fixes are in process. Almost have full skids, waiting on a good catch can system before working on the intake and intercooler, Waiting on miles before replacing oil and trans pans and adding a trans cooler.

I love my Raptor, coming from a 2013 Land Cruiser 200 it is quite the change. It is quite comfy on long distance highway trips, but it begs to be thrashed on twisty back country paved roads and gravel, it is a very feisty, great handling, powerful trucklet. But not really relaxing for those types of trips, but wow, soooo much fun to drive. I get tired out sometimes. In a good way.

Don’t drive a regular Ranger expecting to learn about the Raptor . It is entirely different.

I love mine. I still have a Tacoma and a Tesla.

I really like the Ranger6G but I need a 6’ bed. I would buy again if they add a 6’ bed otherwise I’m looking a F150’s and I’m not interested in Toyota.

For now I’m satisfied with my 2019, my next truck will most likely be my last and it will be loaded…..another plus for a F150.

From a reliability standpoint, it’s way too soon to tell. A few months without major problems does not make it reliable. Check again in 2-3 years, or take the plunge.

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy it as much as I am enjoying mine. Fingers crossed on long term dependability.

I also figured that since these Raptor Rangers have been in other parts of the world prior to here, that should be some time to fix some quirks. Maybe? lol

Will have more thoughts for you this weekend…on my way now to snag my RR, just sold my ‘17 TRD Pro I’ve owned and loved since ‘19. Was going to get the new gen Taco but just can’t get comfy with the hybrid engine, gloss fender flares, gimmicky seats, etc. RR seems like a no brainer relative, but we shall see. Stay tuned!
