Thanks for the reminder! I’d forgotten that at one time, really up into the 90s, AC was an expensive stand alone option. On the order of an automatic transmission. This far north there was no guarantee your car would have it, especially with cheaper cars or Japanese branded cars where it might be a dealer installed option.
lol. Case in point, my 1987 Ranger bought new off the lot had no AC, no cruise control, no rear bumper, no radio, no power windows, power locks, etc. it was PERFECT for my needs at the time. I added other goodies over time as I could afford them. There is a real lack of understanding the past and detachment from history and reality running rampant in our society today and doesn't benefit anyone

Oh wow yes, remember when you could buy a real hair shirt model. I admit I’ve become spoiled with features & not really interested in looking at base models any longer. But yes there was a time when an AM radio in a truck was an option. You really were splurging if you went AM/FM in a work truck!

It would‘ve been early 88 growing up, my family got a Plymouth Voyager, the ultimate 80s family vehicle. Replaced a 70s boogie van we had where the luxury of shag carpeting was all added into the box after it left the factory. That voyager had functional AC, power windows & locks, and learning to drive with it was easy. Fuel injection & just a turn of the key to start. It felt like the space shuttle at the time!

Even looking across the road at the Colorado. I can hardly believe cruise is an option, but it’s amazing what comes standard on the most basic truck offered nowadays! That would’ve been a fully loaded truck not long ago, & some features, like the screen, didn’t even exist then. We’ve come along ways indeed! Thanks for the reminder on just how far.

As technology improves, so do standard options and prices for what was once expensive drops. Think of the price of TVs over the past 30 years. Far better and more options but a cheaper price.

Because "we didn't have those fancy things" isn't an excuse for why what should be a standard feature (and is in ROW rangers) isn't even available for this.

I mean they have research probably showing they didn’t need rear vents in the US

"Should", according to whom exactly? Seems there's some really entitled people out there who think they are always supposed to get what they want just because they want and expect it. I guess that's what negative reviews on social media are for 🤷‍♂️

Certainly don't need it in 2 door, SCab, or work trucks/Fleet. Carrying your family or pets in the rear of cab is a fairly recent development and doesn't cover 100% of buying base. There's plenty of SUV options out there for people with those needs as a higher priority than actual truck things.

According to many buyers and the manufacturer. There's a reason they are on the the ROW vehicles. It's standard there.

Having pets, kids, or passengers doesn't preclude people from using a truck to do "actual truck things."

Tiny % of total population cares about this. Personal preference, not expectation of car buying public in the US.

And I didn't say that either. It's only been the last 10 years or so since manufacturers went full in on maximum sizing mid-size trucks and down played or eliminated simple work trucks to load them up with more profitable features. SUVS were before that, and minivans before that. Make more appealing as family haulers with more creature comforts while eliminating the basic task focused trucks and force prices ever higher. Class leader Toyota just added a basic single cab long bed which should be a clue there is still market demand for this.

For the sake of general info.. I can confirm we do get rear A/C vents in the Thailand made 2023 Ranger Raptors trucks in our region as standard (Middle East)

It's all good. It will be a step up from my 1970 GMC single cab pickup. It doesn't have rear air vents, power steering or power brakes. But it does have a fancy coil spring rear suspension almost like the Raptor. I ordered my 2021 F150 Powerboost without the giant sunroof because it gets hot sometimes here in Texas.

My father has a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 LTZ loaded with everything imaginable & it does NOT have rear seat AC vents or even the vents under the seats for rear heat. My 2004 F150 FX4 Supercab does have both types of vents & my mother has always commented that their truck doesn’t have those features. Is it that big of an issue? Not really, at least not for me it isn’t.

Hi all,

I just noticed that the US version doesn’t have rear A/C vents but the overseas version does. Allegedly it was done for cost savings? What gives?

Ford is being silly. One region gets some things the others don't and vise versa. It was a nightmare knowing what my Thai (Aus Spec) Ford was going to come with. The Aus spec does not come with the switches in the head liner yet the South African spec does but doesn't come with the high end head lights. Its really annoying and causes confusion.

Wouldn't it have been cheaper to have one specification standard than have to build all these different parts for different regions? Make it make sense.
