I like the performance gain for the cost. I personally would like to hear an aggressive gurgle on the auto downshifts. Not the pops and bang but a nice audible rumble. That’s not asking to much…is it?
You don't like the pops in baja mode. LOL. I was actually surprised the first time I heard it pop.

Went through the same thing with my dealer. Rolled my eyes and left. Would like to use Ford Pass points since I have 88k so it would pay for half of it. But Lethal is cheaper and just find a certified shop or a Ford dealer that isn’t a moron do it.
just going to use my points for an oil change and tune install

Good idea, just to find a dealer who won’t charge 3 hours for a 20 min install.

Says on the site it’s available in all 49 states except California (I know ?), would it be possible/what are the potential consequences of having a dealer in a different state install it when the vehicle registered in CA?

update: smog checks are not required for 8 years after the model year of a new vehicle so hypothetically would only have to deal with it then assuming nothing changes

Shaves about half a second off. Feel free to correct me on this, just from calculated estimates with HP and Curb Weight

I have the ProCal tuner that I used on my 22 Ranger. Any idea if it’s possible to reuse it and just download the tune?

The tune in your ECU will need to match the California CVN database as of the passage of the NEW LAW passed July 2021. If it does not match, it will not pass. . https://www.bar.ca.gov/modified-software

You can run the tunes, as people run modified cars there but its a lot of hoops. You should simply wait for FORD to pass the test. Other tunes they have have passed in the past. Its not like you need it right away, they arent gonna run out of Horsepower and torques at the Bank of Fast and Furious.

You guys have to pass a CARB Smog inspection from the CHP. However, it’s easily reversed, so if it didn’t pass it could be easily reversed for the inspection and then reloaded afterwards. Read below as well.
Thanks for the info.

Is there a way for me to get this installed on a California registered vehicle without breaking the law or voiding the warranty? Can I have it installed in another State?

Thanks,
I’d say yes if this tune is compatible with the 49 states OEM tune? personally I suspect there is a different OEM tune version for a California approved vehicle. Something you’ll need to check and inquire on your own.

If the Ford Performance Tune is compatible; you can always go to a dealership in Arizona or Nevada fairly easily. Again, if there were issues with the CARB CHP SMOG inspection, it will be the same as above.

Your Ford servicing dealership will know if the ECU tune has been changed/upgraded by the flash counter in the ECU.

In any case, It would behove you to let them know if there‘s a Ford Performance Tune upgrade installed to the OEM tune version. They may tell you they won’t work on the truck as well, until it’s brought back into CARB regulation trim.

Additionally, allot of time your dealership service, won’t tell you there‘s a new ECU software version upgrade. They just assume the OEM tune is intact and download the newer version. Which can affect how the ECU will respond.

Disclaimer; Not telling either you to do something illegal, just suggesting there are always alternatives.???

You will have to obtain it from someone who has uploaded it, and then your warranty will be voided because only the dealers or certified shops can register it with Ford. Ford can also see that you have tuned it, and can will deny claims and such.

That isnt 100% true.

"Once the vehicle is restored to an OEM-approved or CARB-approved software configuration, the vehicle may be retested at any licensed Smog Check station, unless otherwise directed by BAR to a Referee or STAR station "

If you are unlucky you will get refed and thats a whole thing. ?️‍?

The description says:
Tire size and gear ratio cannot be adjusted

I’m not so much concerned about voiding the warranty but, I’d like to understand how this tune could negatively affect a truck running 35” tires or any technical issues I should consider before doing this. Can someone shed some light?

My thinking is that marginally larger tires won’t be a problem but I also have no clue.

thanks

Purchased the tuner from Lethal Performance yesterday, and took advantage of their Labor Day sale ($675 Delivered). I even picked up the Turbo Smart BOV while I was at it. I should be all in for around $1200 installed. I know that I’m going to have to replace the factory intercooler, but I’ll probably get everything squared away and then call COBB after the new year.

So you (dealer) use the device to "re-program" then the device is removed, or the device has to remain in the vehicle? Can the truck be set back to the original program using the same device?
I left the Ford tuner installed on my last truck; mounted it to my windshield beside the “A” piller and used it as a guage cluster. I will most likely do the same with the one I just purchased for my RR.

I ordered the Cobb intercooler with their only sale of the year the other day. Got the tuner from Lethal Performance. Charge air temps run pretty high on the factory tune.
