Trailer wiring harness connection relocation

Just curious has anyone moved their trailer wiring harness from in front of the trailer hitch underneath the rear bumper to next to the license plate like on all the other ranger models. Such a cleaner looking design. Would love to know the reason why it was placed there on the raptor models in the first place.

I would also like to see what other's have done. Ford put a 4 pin connector back up under the bumper over near the left side tail light. Have to be careful pulling my trailer 7 pin adapter out of the 4 pin under the bumper or I'll scrape half the skin off my hand. Poor design and they should have a dual 7 pin - 4 pin hookup in the bumper next to the license plate like other manufacturers.

The TFL Truck IKE towing challenge video on YouTube talked about the location. Said it was a carryover from the Australian design. Probably a way to save cost than do a parts redesign. ?‍

I get that, but why do all the other ranger models have it next to license plate.

RR does not have room with the full size 33” spare.

The option is no good, if you’re going don’t remove the spare. Spare blocks the plug and wiring from the back.??

Do you know this for a fact? I don’t see how they could even offer this for sale for a RR without mentioning that! Please elaborate. Because I would really like to have this…..

I just now emailed American Adventure Lab asking about this. I will pass on any comments here. I also asked if they would install one on my truck at short notice, since I will be passing through St George UT in a week, where they are located.

John I’d suggest you look for yourself. If it fits in there it’s going to be a tight fit no matter.

He doesn’t know because he hasn’t fitted one either.??

This shows the mounting process and the connector is closer to the spare in the stock location than after moving it. Just looked under my truck and there is PLENTY of room for this to work.

There’s nothing in the video that shows the underside of the truck………..In fact, the mounting position is inboard of its original mounting position. It’s directly in line with the middle of the spare tread, offset to the left of center.

I have doubts with the plug length fitting in this small space.??

I received these two pics showing the relocated Trailer Plug Tuck Kit harness and a factory 33” tire (Ranger Raptor). I think that some extra care should be taken when raising the spare,, but the clearance looks good to me.

Another option is to cut the bracket off, trim off the unnecessary parts and weld it this way on the driver side inside corner of that bumper looking downwards. It's protected and still easy to find and plug things in.

I have additional reverse lights using up the spaces next to the plate.
