What do they take apart to do the recall? If they drop the headliner I’ll need to take my dash cam and wires out. I would like to wire the camera to the mirror but haven’t quite figured that out yet.

I am working with my dealer to have my roof insulated with sound and heat protection when they drop the headliner like Flaberdoopin did on his YouTube channel.

how much are they charging you to add the insulation? Just curious, I may have the same done to mine if the price is right.

Not sure yet, the dealership lets technicians do “side jobs “ in the evening as long as they use their own tools and pay for parts, etc. I sent the video to the tech this morning. He has been out on medical leave for a couple weeks. I’d jump at $200 with supplying the materials for sure. I did the doors and it really helped. Thought about doing the headliner but I REALLY don’t want to.

So I agreed to pay $200 to have the insulation done plus about $100 in materials. I tipped the guy $50 so all in, $350. I watched the video of the insulation being installed, worth $250 to have someone else do it.

Ford's technician instructions state to lower the headliner. That being said, some techs do not do this. The headliner is manipulated in a way that causes it to no longer seat properly in the windshield area and/or other places. I have checked some after the repair to verify this. (Ford tech)

They get paid by Ford to lower the headliner. The truth is the amount paid by Ford is NEVER enough. Ford techs investigate ways to shorten the procedure. Most are paid by the job, if the job pays two hours and it takes them four, they only get paid two.

Did the dealer principal inform you that techs are allowed to do side jobs? I have worked at Ford dealers for 50 years and have never been allowed to do 'side jobs'

There appears to be a new process in place, apparently takes less than an hour. I had the tech drop the headliner because I really wanted the insulation done.

Just quoted from the technician's information. It has been the same since the release of technican information. I am a Ford tech. No new procedure authorized by Ford.

I watched a video today of a guy doing the job.. He actually stated Ford put two hours on the work. He took the A and B post off and pulled the side of the headliner down and placed the part in blind. To my eye I would rather they brought the whole thing down and did the job right rather than cutting corners and doing it half way. I could do it quicker pulling the whole liner rather than the way this kid did it.
