I was removing the factory skid plates and saw all this on a truck I picked up in Long Beach CA with 21 miles on it, and drove home ~400 miles. What the heck!

I would expect to see some this later, but not already. It was surprising.

Just guessing but if you picked that up in Long Beach with 21 miles, somebody took that truck for a ride along a beach w/saltwater going in one direction along the water's edge but not back, thus the crud mostly on one side. Hindsight: good idea to put a new truck on a lift and go over it with the salesman before you sign. You might get your truck under coated and rust proofed by Line-X while under 1000 miles so you get a lifetime warranty.

Have you seen Faris Buellers day off?
Haha. That's what I was thinking. With the amount of sand in the skid plate, that had to have been driven off road.

EDIT: I think the simpler suggestion of Michigan's shitty roads around the assembly plant is the better explanation.

You cant drive on the beach legally in Long Beach and that doesn’t look like beach sand,

there was a fair amount of rain recently. It looks like some one took it for a joy ride.

Yikes. I agree that the sales rep needs to be looped into this conversation. Although every time I buy a new vehicle of any make, the sales rep is "no longer working here" the next time I call. It would seem that new car sales reps have a shelf life similar to that of fresh fish. As soon as you buy from them - poof - they're gone. 😟

Any flooding near Long Beach or the dealership? Or maybe it was a lot ornament for a while and test driven. Regardless,, there is much discussion on other Ford forums about lack of undercoating. Some owners had dealers take care of if, others told it is normal so not an issue. Some owners care. Others don't. I just take my new trucks to Line-X or similar (Phoenix or Rhino here) and get a premium UV spray-in, undercoating, and rust proof @$1500 under 1000 miles and no longer worry about it. If you have the factory spray in already, you can still get the truck undercoated and rust proofed.

What is the build date? If it sat on the lot for any length of time , that could of blown in the shielding, rust... It's gonna happen.

As far as the driveshaft and front CV cups, Ford made a decision not to paint and is instead using a steel that creates a protective rust layer. Not saying that right, just that is what Ford decided to do. I plan, probably about the time I take my '24 for ceramic treatment to also go to an indy mechanic and have my drive shaft dismounted, polished up and painted.

Now that sand/road dirt/whatever; looks very much like someone offroaded it for a "test" drive.

I would have to say the new vehicle prep guys took it for a joy ride. When ever I ordered a new truck I would tell the dealer I wanted to be there when it came off the car hauler. It helped that a friend of mine's wife worked for the car hauling company and could track it.
