For years I’ve been hearing acronyms for Ford that imply that they’re undependable and break down on the side of the road, yet I rarely ever see a Ford disabled along the highway that I commute daily. If I do, it’s typically a flat or an accident. Most of the break-downs end up being GM, Chrysler, Hyundai, and Kia (in this area).

is this the case with anyone else or is this just “regional” because there may be more GMs in the area (we have an assembly plant).

Thoughts? I’m curious as to what auto-maker “really seems to be leaving drivers stranded on the highway.”

Dodge...runnin' strong, but not for long.

GMC-Got Mechanic Coming

One day while teaching 8th grade, a young lady got into the boys' discussion about trucks. She said, "Mr. Brantley, my Uncle says a Ford Powerstroke will still be strokin' while a Dodge is Cummins in your hand!"
Uh, okay Tamara, thanks for that. Now, back to history. 😊

What you see can depend on your area.

If there are more GM or Chrysler cars near you, you will see more of them on the side of the road. It does not always mean they fail more.

All brands can have problems. Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Stellantis, Hyundai Motor Company, and Kia Corporation all make many cars. Some have issues, some do not.

Breakdowns also depend on:

* maintenance
* age
* miles
* how the car is used

A car that is not serviced can fail no matter the brand.

So it is not one brand that leaves drivers on the road. It is a mix of use, care, and how many of each brand are in the area.

Seen too many GM/Chevy PU on the side of the road with busted ball joints.
In 360K miles, my 95 F150 left me stranded once, due to a busted radiator hose.
My 99 B4000 left me stranded with a failed fuel pump, at about 200K.

When I jumped from a BMW coupe to my current Ranger, my buddies teased me and said that I went from a Broke My Wallet car to a Fix Or Repair Daily car. 😂

I think you gotta catch the uptick in the times and know when to swing over to the dependable side. Actually the old “fix or repair daily” is a good thing for us. It keeps Ford on its toes. Never understood the Ford or Chevy debate from the hard core, its market timing. When Ecoboost was just EFI the issue was IVD, now we have port and direct injection. Ford fixed the issue. The consumer wants reliability, Ford responded.

I have to say I see a lot of foreign vehicles alongside the highway on my way to work too.
