I use Android Auto; it hooks up as soon as I start my 2024 Lariat. I always keep the voice directions muted though as they drive me crazy. So yesterday I get into my truck to leave work and as soon as I start to leave my parking spot the female AA voice (I get both a male and a female, randomly) tells me there is a delay of 9 minutes to my destination. First, I didn't enter a destination, so how could it know if there's a delay or not? Second, why/how did I get a voice message like that? Voice directions are muted. When she said it, no message appeared on my screen. This has happened to me a couple of times now. Has anybody else had this happen? Any thoughts on causes?

The other weird thing AA has been doing lately is when I try to call someone, it will tell me that person isn't in my contacts. That's using voice commands and the microphone button on the screen. However, if I say "OK Google, call the Old Lady", it will dial it right up.

Same with text messages. Every now and then if I hit the microphone button and say "text the Old Lady" it will tell me that feature isn't available. Then I'll say "OK Google, text the Old Lady", and it will work fine.

Oddly in both the calling and texting issues, it's usually the female voice telling me I can't do it, then when I use OK Google the male voice will let me proceed. Go figure.

i don't really use the voice commands so i am not sure if mine will act up. maybe someone next to your truck accidentally got through because of hte truck starting and that is the 9 minute notice?

Is there another phone saved to your truck?

Not sure; possible I guess, though in the same trip I got another "delayed X minutes" message, again with my voice directions on mute.

No, there's not. At least not that I'm aware of. I guess it's possible someone got access (accidentally or otherwise) to my stuff when the truck started

Has it only been delay warnings that it voices? I could see it still notifying of delays even if the voice directions is turned off.

It has only been delay warnings, but it has happened when I haven't set a destination - if I'm not going anyplace specific, how can it know if there's a delay?

I get that sometimes. I assumed it's an AI feature that learns your habits and reports delays. Mine usually does it when I'm leaving work and heading home. Then I'll look at the Waze map and see there is a a traffic backup along my route. Useful and disturbing at the same time lol. I'm sure there is a way to opt out if it's too bothersome. If you're using Waze, it does provide delay notifications so you might look at your settings.

As for the contacts issue, it likely depends on your phones default assistant, maybe? I just got a new phone last week and first time I pressed the assistant button on the steering wheel I got a male voice (was Gemini) instead of the female I usually get (Google assistant). I notice I get completely different results depending on the phone's assistant too. I had to get into my phone and change defaults. AA can be finicky sometimes.

If you have Google Gemini it may be learning your driving habits and announcing your driving distance.
Now there's something I hadn't thought of, and makes some sense. I'm going to look into that some more.

Do you have your "Home" location set in Google? If so, it's making an assumption that since you're at work and you started the truck you're headed home, it's providing a traffic update based on that preset info.

As far as the other things, dunno but Android Auto is a hell of a lot more stable than Apple Carplay. The Apple product does a lot of goofy shit.

Mine had changed to Gemini. When I made Google assistant the default it seems to have fixed things.

Thanks for the help.
