Because none of us can leave well enough alone (and why would you?), I took the last several days to complete the almost obligatory door sound deadening and Focal IS690/IC650 upgrades. I was pretty sick but the wife is out of town and I had nothing but time (and lots of Theraflu).
I ended up getting the Focals shipped in from Germany because they were almost half the price compared to Crutchfield. Siless sheets came from Amazon.
All my info came from this forum and from YouTube. I'll spare everyone every single picture of every single step, just mix in some variety
We just got done with a heavy, wet snowstorm here in Denver and the RR was outside, but I was a bit surprised HOW wet it was inside the door panels. I had to run a fan into each door for a good hour+ to dry them out. The back of each speaker was also very wet
Each door got two layers of Siless: 120mil Max and then 200mil Hybrid. I didn't go for "extreme" coverage, just the largest flat panels
Fronts wrapped up with the IS690 and some NVX foam surround (it is 1" thick very squishy foam and presses against the grill)
Back doors are similar, just with less harness. The one thing about the Focal IC650 is they don't have the big plastic "standoff" that the B&Os have, so they sit further back in the door. The NVX foam wasn't useful because the gap is well over 1"
The speakers came with nice metal decals, which I installed for now. They are just stickers so if I decide I don't like them... pop
And for your listening enjoyment, a comparison of the front (with sound deadening complete) and the rear (no sound deadener yet). It is so satisfying now. Every time I walk past the truck I tap on the doors because it sounds oh so much better.
