So my RR is at the dealer for possible turbo replacement and I was given a 2026 Exp. ST. Nice SUV. Fast and responsive. I noticed that the trans is WAY better than the RR. Smooth shifts in sport. No jerking between 4-5-6 like you're pulling a trailer on and off throttle.

Why can't for do this on the RR? Same trans right?

I own both, and my 25' ST is definitely a little smoother, but it's not a night and day difference.

Maybe try a tranny re-learn on the truck?

To me it's night and day. I have done a relearn a few times. But I'm not sure how I sould drive the truck to get it smooth. In normal mode it shifts just fine, it's when it's in sport at part throttle that it just sucks.

Here's something to chew on...

https://gearsmagazine.com/magazine/...0r80-and-10r140-solenoids-make-shifts-happen/
  • Clear the DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) and Transmission Adaptive Tables using the scan tool.
  • Drive the vehicle until the engine and transmission reach normal operating temperature.
  • Accelerate from a stop with light throttle (15%), ensuring that upshifts 1st through 8th occur at engine speeds between 1300-1600 rpm.
  • Continue to accelerate (may apply slightly more throttle after 7-8 upshift at 32-38 mph (51-61 km/h) until you achieve 55 mph (88 km/h) and the 8-9 and 9-10 shifts complete.
  • Brake gently to a complete stop and hold your foot on the brake for five (5) seconds.
  • Shift the transmission to Neutral. Wait 1 second.
  • Shift the transmission to Reverse. Wait 2 seconds.
  • Shift the transmission to Neutral. Wait 1 second.
  • Shift the transmission to Drive. Wait 2 seconds.
  • Repeat Steps 3 through 9 six additional times.
The shifting excercise is apparently to calibrate clutch behavior.

If you do the above let me know how it goes.

Ok when I get the truck back I will do that. I am asuming i can just disconnect the battery to clear the trans adaptive tables?

Is this what you did?

My RR is smoother than my friend's 21' ST, he does have 130k+ on his now and mine is Pro Cal tuned while his ST is stock, but given it's the same transmission, somewhat comparable. I have zero issues with my 10R60 and it's very smooth and the close gear spacing make feel almost as linear as an EV.

Sounds like yours either has an issue or maybe needs a re-learn? Did you check the trans fluid level? Some people have gotten them underfilled from the factory.

Yeah I had the fluid checked and they added less than a quart. I'm going to have the dealer check this out after they diagnose the turbos.

How does it feel in sport with light to moderate throttle? Specifically the 4-5 and 5-6 shit.

Mine is all stock and shifting in all gears is super smooth with no drama. Sport mode is smooth as well. The only time the trans kinda makes its self known is when DOWN shifting in sport mode, because its rev-matching. But other than that, no weirdness on mine.

Keep in mind that Sport (and Baja) are deliberately more aggressive, both in throttle and shifting.

I am aware. Whenever I am in Baja I am manually shifting since it holds the gears too long. In sport on the street if I am aggressive with the throttle its fine and if I manually shift it's fine. When I am just tooling around in traffic at part throttle it's jacked up. It's is smoother in 4A sport though.

Sport isn't meant to be "tooling around in traffic". But to each his own.

I'm just saying... if you expect a drive mode that is specifically designed for hooning around, in a performance vehicle, to be SUV-smooth while not hooning around, then maybe your expectations need to change a bit.

FWIW, I have had the FP tune since the second tank of gas. That tune is known to smooth out the transmission. I feel that Sport is aggressive, but I expect that.

If you drove my truck you would agree that the 4-5-6 shift in sport is messed up. Imagine pulling a trailer with the wrong size ball and cargo moving front to back. That's what the shifts feel like at a steady state throttle, say 50%. The entire truck feels like it bogs then lurches or vice versa. Full throttle it's fine. Well as fine as a TC trans can be that is trying to act like a DCT.
