2024 Ranger external windshield film

My windshield was just replaced under warranty by Ford for glass delamination.
I am now contemplating installing a external windshield protection film to prevent pits and chips to the new windshield.
I travel across counter and in 21,000 miles accumulated quite a bit.
Anyone have experience with this.
The application costs about $450.00.

Just Google Windshield Protection Film.
You probably will find installers near you.
My son had it installed on his Bronco.
It can deteriorate from windshield wipers and will need to be replaced in time.
Windshields are expensive for the Rangers.
My thought was protecting a new windshield from sand pitting and rock chips.

It's like PPF but for the window, place around here does it. They use it on racing cars like NASCAR. Pit stop they just rip it off.

My wife said too bad they don't have protector film for windshields. She found out about it from our son who had it installed on his Bronco. I knew they had them for off road and race cars but didn't know they had them that was street legal.

I've had it (Xpel brand) on my Ranger for about 18 months. It definitely works to stop pitting and chips. It's saved my windshield from at least two big rock hits that I'm sure would caused significant damage without it. On the other hand it does develop scratches from the wipers. Hard to say how long it will last and eventually it will need to be replaced. Overall, I'd say it's worth it. I guess I'd rather replace the film occasionally then the windshield.

I have been looking into this for my Jeep TJ since the windshield pretty much flat and takes a beating. It does seem a bit expensive, so going to try to do it myself with a DIY roll of film on my broken windshield before I get it replaced..... Then depending on those results, maybe try it on my Ranger.....

As for the wiper wear, thinking a good wax or ceramic coat along with regular cleaning will prevent the need to use the wipers too much in the rain and minimize the wear over time.... Or I could be completely wrong.

I was thinking now that I have a new windshield it would be the time to do it.
From what I here older windshields will need a bit more prep work on the install such as clay bar.

You gotta weight the cost of it vs windshield replacement cost vs increased insurance premium to have $0 deductible on your windshield.

It is basically an insurance product, but kinda expensive for your "coverage" and it wears out? (goes to $0 value)

My insurance doesn't cover chipped windshields. From what I understand a new windshield costs about $1200-$1700. Possible extra cost to calibrate the electronics.
My issue is usually the sand blasting my windshield gets.
