Man, what did we do in the 90's without air bags? Can't believe I'm still alive.

i thought driver side airbags were required, even in the 90s?

personally I’m all for airbags and safety.

it sucks getting hurt

The side airbags are designed to prevent the ejection of un-belted people, something I never understood until now.

Rule 226 discusses partial or full ejection during a rollover event

basically It talks about reducing side to side movement of your head when the vehicle rolls over

you wouldn’t want your head to go through the window and have the truck rollover you

or have your head repeatedly bang against the side of the vehicle

so not just people without seatbelts.

and since it is a long duration event the side curtain needs to stay inflated for several seconds, which is why the recall because apparently sometimes it doesn’t

the side curtain will also protect in the case of side impacts, with or without seatbelts.

In the late 60"s or seat belts we didn't use.

I'm ok with the recalls. I'd rather Ford get its supply chain side sorted, but a good portion of this recent activity seems to be from shifting stuff around during COVID. Mainly newer vehicles. I dunno. I think Farley is trying to get to get Ford to a good place for long term sustainably. That's almost universally despised by anyone who benefits from short term gains.

Edit to add: Remember, the Ford family makes most of its money from their special class of shares. They don't need to grow quickly or the stock price to rise. They want the company to make enough profits to pay healthy dividends in perpetuity.

Man what a drag! I was supposed to pick up mine today for a trade-in but you cant legally sell a new vehicle with open recalls so now I'm in limbo. Dealer called me when I was 15 minutes away. Arrrrrgh.

It comes up on my center display every time I start my truck. It has a dismiss button but I leave it there as it goes away in a minute or so.

It now shows up on the Ford app also. Says vehicle will been unavailable to drive for 13 minutes.
