I am confused by the need for bed reinforcement. Some say it is only needed when carrying the above 88lb load off-roading. Others say it is just needed for anything above 88lbs. Which is true? Does this mean you can’t even sit on the bed rails or get a hard tonneau cover that you can stand on?

Installed bed cap and "when used in extreme off-road conditions" from the Ford CSP above.
Looking at pics of the braces and how they attach, it looks to me a severe side to side motion above the top of the bed rails is the issue. The braces reinforce to prevent cracking.

Of more concern to me are reports of the bed floor cracking when hauling a light load, One member here had his truck bought back by Ford for this issue.

Just scheduled service with my ford dealer for a recall on the windows and they are also installing the J braces free as part of the customer satisfaction program. Might be why they are unavailable on the parts website.

I do not see a note for this in the ford pass app, but the dealership saw it in their system.

I believe thats only happening if you buy a ford branded topper from ford. Is that your situation?

Has anyone noticed the build dates in the CSP?? I suspect that the issue has been eliminated in Job 2 builds, but I don't have access to the OASIS and FSA VIN lists mentioned.

Nope. Might be dealer error. I'm scheduled to drop it off a week from Friday and will follow up after.

I was simply scheduling for a recall on the power windows that showed up in my ford pass app, and I have grease being ejected from somewhere on my front drive shaft I want taken a look at under warranty (boot looks fine so maybe a pinhole or something...).

They noted the jbrace and added it as a 3rd item for the appointment. I do have a Raptor, so possibly specific to RR, but that wouldn't make sense in my mind.

Dang, dealers I’ve called are charging an arm and a leg…
Where are you located if you don’t mind me asking?

Not seeing anything other than the TSB about the brackets, but only if you buy a Ford topper accessory. My brother's RR won't get it paid for under TSB specifically because he is buying a Leer with more options than Ford offers. He was able to negotiate the final topper price to pretty much cover most of the braces.

Ford doesn't make toppers, so why only Ford toppers?
The way I read it is that the TSB will only pay for braces if you bought the topper thru Ford.
Buy it elsewhere, you are on your own for purchase and install of braces, which is still bad on Ford's part as they know problems could arise with anything installed on the bed rails.

I've read and followed eleventy different posts/threads about this reinforcement bracket. I cannot find this bed/rail/load/rating issue in the owner's manual. Is this still correct? (I also checked for a possibly updated owner's manual.)
