New here as well...How much are most dealers asking for in a deposit to get on the allocation list. I was able to secure #1 allocation at a local dealer with no deposit. Spoke to another dealer and they wanted a $500 non refundable deposit. Didnt want to put down a non refundable when I dont even know how much over msrp they are gonna charge (was told atleast $5k)
Sounds weird, but I would be scared if a dealer secured me a #1 allocation with no deposit at all. Just kind of opens the door for them to get out of any obligation.

Even my local dealership that I have been talking to for the past 2 years, told me their is no list, and they will submit my order no matter what. Which also makes me nervous. I am just going to take them at face value, and if it's just a complete shit show, the good news is, there are a whole slew of midsizes to choose from now.

I called the salesman from a dealer we bought a Bronco Sport from last year and he told me they could get me one at sticker.

The biggest Ford dealer here told me they could get me one for $10k over through a broker and I told them to pound sand.

Hey all! Been watching a lot of the press coverage on the 2024 Ranger Raptor lately and think its a pretty awesome truck and I'd really like to go after getting one. But I've never really pursued buying a more "specialty" model like a Raptor and I'm not sure how different the process is going to be versus previous vehicles (that were nothing really special) that I've ordered.

When the order banks open later this month, can I just go to a dealer with my Build and Price printout, plop down a deposit, and put in an order like I could for other vehicles in the past? Or is there some special process that I have to go through for a special model like this?

I'm willing to open my wallet somewhat to get there, but I really don't want to be paying massive dealer markups. I'm not so much interested in being "first" I'd just like to get on a guaranteed list to have one built at some point. Are there particular dealers that are more likely to get orders for the Raptor models? I live around Denver, Colorado but I don't mind traveling to whatever corner of the country I need to if it means working with a reliable dealer that can get things done without screwing around or ripping me off. (And don't say the Grainger one in Iowa, I ordered a 2022 from them and bailed on it after I got impatient and found something else locally...I doubt they're going to want to hear from me again after that...)

Anyway, any buying advice for these more specialty models is much appreciated. I've never ventured into shopping for something like this before and just want to make sure I have my homework done first!
Thanks for the info everyone! I called around to a couple local dealers. Most of them just laughed at me and said I'd be waiting years. I asked some local contacts that buy a lot of cars for a dealer and salesman recommendation in my area that isn't going to jerk me around.

I contacted their recommended dealer and person and they at least took my name and put it on an interest list. Said they would call me back when the order guides / build and price are released and we can put something together. I don't know how long this interest list is, what my actual chances are, or if they'll even actually call me back (I'll proactively follow up when the order guides are out) but at least I finally got someone to spend more than 3 minutes talking to me about it.

A lot of it is also going to be geography based. If you live in a rural area, with 1 dealer around for hundreds of miles, its going to be a grind. If you live in a major city and a densely populated state (like So. Cal), there are tons more dealers, and most of those dealers do volume, and will have allocations.

But honestly if you're just starting now, it's might be difficult. I started a relationship with a dealer as soon as ROW was announced, and expressed to them my intentions every couple of months, and even that isn't a sure thing.

I work for a dealer and we do not charge over MSRP ... owner is dead set against it and we have gotten so much business because of it. West Herr Auto Group is in it for the long haul... We have 4 Ford stores of all sizes and my Inventory Manager has told me we will all get at least 1 allocation.

I spoke with a local dealer today & the sales manager said that initially every dealer is only be allocated one Ranger Raptor, period. That’s nationwide & the size of the dealer & volume means nothing. Also I was told that their two dealerships will be imposing a 5K premium on their allocation. I said thank you but that won’t work for me so I’l call some others & if I find a dealership that will work with me, fine, if not I’ll buy something else.

Hi Tony, I'm very much interested in securing one of your dealership allocation, would be willing to put a deposit for that intention of getting one at msrp. Pm with the information I need to secure one. Thanks a lot.

I'm sure each has it's one allotted Raptor committed all ready. But admirable your dealer is holding at MSRP. Sadly not the norm anymore. I'm lucky my local dealer is being fair with me also.

Two massive dealers near me got a total of 3 allocations. Lol. One was presold to someone who offered $10k over sticker for an 18 year old's bday present. Soooo, we will see. I'm not going to pay over sticker yet. I am not that desperate for one. I have a bike and a car, my wife has an SUV. We can make life work for now.

And then we wonder why it's so hard to buy a truck without adms when there are people just willing to line the dealership owners pocket with cash so easily lol.

They only get one a piece. So no, they don't have three allocations. So if they've said that they are lying.

Each dealer only gets one until q4. So no one knows how many they'll get after their one initial allocation.

some people have more money than sense. Different strokes for different folks and all that. Saw article today that Michael Jordan plopped down $3.5 mil for a limited production Supercar. Regular people can't ever compete with that.

One said one, the other said two, both said they were sold. Lying or not, everything is sold to people who have cash to burn atm.

Also, I'm not so quick to call someone whose misinformed a liar. These are sales reps, they don't always get the right facts. I'd be more akin to call someone a liar if I can clearly see them trying to amp up pressure to spend vs. tell me they are out and not taking orders.

As expected. With each dealer only getting one and the us mkt wtg so long to get the Ranger Raptor it should be expected they'd be committed and taken. I've been wtg almost 7 years since ranger raptor was first mentioned by Ford, so I definitely jumped at this opportunity and ensured long ago I had a relationship with a dealer so I'd get early access and at a fair price.

Pretty sure everyone on this thread has been waiting for a generation. Congrats on your relationship building? How'd you do it? Buying cars every year? Sending flowers? Cookies? Long walks on the beach? Hah, jokes aside, every sales rep I've talked to has moved on (either to pre-owned, other dealers, departments, quit, or actually passed away, unfortunately).

I wasn't trying to get at anything originally, I was just posting up my experiences for some other people who may view the thread.
