I have a 2024 Ranger Lariat. Last week I went to get gas, I could not get the gas nozzle in the gas filler tube. It would not go in, the inner valve was stuck. I finally got it, filled the tank and could hardly get it out. Truck is now at dealer and part on order. Might get it back on a Tuesday, part appears to be hard to get. Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like you may have forced it open and broken the EZ fill flap

The safety closure on EZ fuel ports has two release tabs on either side that have to be depressed before the inner fuel flap will open, granting access to the tank.

You can get a soft siphon hose in by depressing one tab with a finger, and the other by sliding in the hose, it is a tight squeeze but I can be done. Once the flap opens you can slide the hose all the way in and begin fuelling.

If you are fuelling with a hard plastic funnel or nozzle from a gas can it will have to be of the correct diameter and similar length as a standard gas nozzle in order to open the flap.

I bought a tallboy style funnel and trimmed off the plastic end until it smoothly opened the gas port

I tried pushing with my finger when the gas nozzle would not open EZ fill flap. It would not open even slightly. i kept trying but it would not open. Finally decided to try gas nozzle again and did put some pressure on it and flap did open. Filled tank and then had hard time getting nozzle out. On FB 2024 + Ford Ranger several have said they have had similar problem.

The gas nozzle at the pump can be the problem. If the end piece on the nozzle comes off, it won’t go in your filler tube correctly. You probably got it forced in. The flapper in your filler tube won’t open until the detents on both sides are pushed in by the pump nozzle.

There's a funnel on the Ranger for filling with a Gas can right. Where is the funnel on the Ranger.
The funnel should be tucked behind the rear seat. It can be accessed by folding the seat back forward, and is found on the passenger side toward the floor.

I still can't figure out what was wrong with a screw-on cap. I understand on vehicles that need quick pit stops, but it seems like "why-tech" on a roadgoing vehicle, to me.
There are plenty of *potential* issues with gas caps. Some that I’ve personally experienced: failing emissions tests due to the gas caps, or having the cap stuck on (happens occasionally with our German cars with caps that are just the partial-turn variety), losing gas caps to theft or aloofness when refilling, etc. Problems with caps may be uncommon, but I also suspect a lot of us are driving around with poor or improper tank ventilation because of aging gas caps.

Yeah, my Jeep has thrown a gascap emissions code for like Âľ of its 16-year life. I like capless.

Gas caps and their seals are wear items.

They're not meant to last forever, but I bet they'll last longer than this flap thing.

When I encounter stuck partial-turn caps or the torque-limiting variety, I just squeeze them tight enough to bind them and they work.

When that begins to happen, it's time to replace or lubricate the cap and/or seal.

I get it, but when the first indication of a failing cap is my wife at a gas station late at night after a double shift and she can’t put gas in her tank I find myself not able to wax nostalgic for gas caps now that I have a cap less one. Neither is perfect.

I was not aware there is a funnel.
Thank you. Good to know!

What's the life expectancy of this system before it fails emissions.
This is the first vehicle I have owned with this system. Not sure how long it's been around.
Coming from California where emissions tests are required every other year on older vehicles, out of 15 vehicles I very rarely had one fail because of the cap system.
Most of the cap issues were drivers loosing the caps.
Seems it's cheaper and easier to replace a cap vs. replacing these newer systems when they fail.
Are they covered under emissions warranties?
