First Oil change advice?

Ordered a Lariat back in August due for delivery 1st week of December...my question is about the first Oil change. I have seen posts here where people have their Oil changed after the first 1000 miles. This is my first truck, always had a company vehicle, had trucks as rentalS but never owned one. Why would you change the oil after the first 1000 miles, is it due to the break in period and the Oil gets "dirty" quick during this process or shoud I just stick to Ford's recommended Oil change schedule? Any other recommedations for a first time truck owner is greatly appreciated.

You'll spark everyone's opinion with the question. Some wait til the monitor tells them, others go in my opinion overboard and change at 500, 1,000, 2,500, 5,000. I did mine at 5,000 and will probably keep 5k OCI since it was $70 for the the Works at my local dealer and figure an extra $70 once every 6 months shouldn't break anyone's bank account since they can afford a new truck they can afford an oil change.

This is the first vehicle that Ive ever purchased. All my life Ive leased. Also, this is my first American vehicle, all the others were European. Not that I didnt care about my leased vehicles, I just never kept them that long.

This one I want to make sure its always in top condition in case I do keep it. My oil was pretty black at my 1k oil change. Also, I wanted to get my personal choice of oil(Amsoil) in there as soon as possible. I plan on changing every 5k also.

Consider that the engine will have more metal flakes in the oil in the first few hundred miles. The low cost of an early oil change versus the long term damage to the turbines and small oil pathways is cheep insurance. I did my first oil change at 400mi for that reason. Unless you’ve done an engine rebuild, there isn’t much value in doing it again at say 1,000mi. I’ll wait to do the next at 5,000mi and follow a 5,000mi interval thereafter. A cool engine is a happy engine; I don’t care what the oil life meter says. Again, changing oil is cheap insurance. I’ve been buying new cars since 1986 (13 new cars); I’m not a mechanic, but I’ve never had an engine failure or major issue so I’d say that philosophy has worked for me.

Whatever you do, always make sure to have someone else do it, or change the oil yourself. Before your first oil change, make sure to drive it easy keeping the RPMs low or drive it like you stole it. Modern engines don't need a break-in period so make sure to break in the engine. Fill it up with an octane of gas and above all, enjoy your truck!

I would mention the piston return springs, but I thought that was a given.

Does not matter what you do, it will be wrong to some group of people. The owner's manual recommendations are a minimum. Do whatever floats your boat for the feelz.

I've broken in many motorcycles (sportbikes) and always changed oil at 500 miles with dino oil, then 1000 miles with full synthetic.

Now, this isn't a high-reving sportbike engine, but it does have twin turbos. I plan on doing 1000 miles and calling it good. Not sure yet if I'll run synthetic when that time comes.

This debate is one as old as ICE, and other than following the owner's manual there's no correct answer, only preferences.
