FML...first road trip, 2 rock chips within 2 hours of each other

Happened to me too on my first road trip in my new Ranger! I've heard good things about Dr. ColorChip, but haven't actually tried it myself just yet.

While we are commiserating....

I had a giant dump truck throw a rock that I swore would have left a huge dent. Sounded like a bowling ball hit the side of the truck.

Turns out it was the curved lip right by the rear passenger window. Thankfully it wasn't the window itself--i'm sure that would have shattered. Not fun going down the freeway.

I have had several rock chips over my lifetime of driving.
NONE were due to semi-trucks.

i picked up some Dr. color chip and happy with the results. it doesn’t do a perfect repair, but it’s easy to use and makes the chips far less noticeable. one is hard to see.

Were you in texas? Here, it feels like you drive off the lot snd people get in frint if you and throw marbles at your windshield. You cant have a nice vehicle and clear windshield or someone has to screw it up.


Happened driving home from the dealer in my wife's brand new surprise 2018 titanium escape, back in 18. Happened in my titan a month after i got it, happened in my ranger 3 months into owning it, my father in law got his after 2 months.

Texas roads just plain suck.

And think. Those are the best roads we have.
I-10 was widened to 3 lanes from Lafayette to the Basin Bridge a few years ago.
It's already getting potholes because they decided to use asphalt, not concrete.

Second time I drove my Ranger a vehicle in other lane put a stone chip in my windshield.
Both wife and I both said " Can you believe this " I have not had a vehicle since 2001 that has not needed a windshield replaced.

I bought a windshield protectant ($500) and was still lucky enough to get a hit right on the edge of the window where the film didn't cover which cracked it nicely Outside of my bad luck though it has saved it multiple other times.

I rarely ever got chipped windshields before moving to Florida. The heat makes tires sticky enough to throw a lot of debris though it seems.
